The expansion for Outer Rim was awesome. With few exceptions this totally enhanced game play and I would never consider playing with out the expansion again. When we put it on the table we ended up playing multiple games!

Nearly every aspect of the game is expanded with the Unfinished Business expansion. You get more playable characters and contacts, though many of them are characters featured in the base game. In addition, there are cooperative jobs, which require two players to be on the same planet and pool their resources to complete, and rules for hunting player bounties. The map gets a small upgrade in the addition of Core World tiles, which allow players to cut from one end of the galaxy to another as an encounter and serve as cargo and job destinations. Unfinished business also adds some optional rules expanding on the rules for favors and win conditions. Ambitions give each player unique starting gear and unique goals, which, in addition to the fame requirement, need to be met to win. Solo play also gets some expanded rules to allow solo players to play against any playable character, and give the AI opponent more varied behavior based on the AI player's character. Overall, it is well worth buying if you like the base game. If you aren't a fan of the base game, though, it probably won't change your mind unless you were just underwhelmed by the variety.

This expansion contains more of everything that made the game good plus a favor/debt system that helps with player interaction as well as some jobs that require player interaction. We haven't tried the player goal system yet as it expands the game length but it also looks intuitive and fun if you don't mind a longer game.

Star Wars Outer Rim was a fun base game, but it began to get repetitive -- it was obvious it needed more cards, and that the design team deliberately left some number gaps in the database deck. Unfinished Business may not be the final expansion, but it does help finish those issues, nicely. We get a large number of database cards. We get new player characters, and new ships to buy. We get new ways to interact with primary characters, if they are not being used by players this game. It goes a long way to making Outer Rim the immersive experience we all hoped for- buy it, if you have or are picking up SW Outer Rim.

I wish that MM would stop asking me to write reviews. I don't want to review products but if I don't I continue to get nag emails asking me to review.

This expansion seems tailor-made to address nearly all my complaints about Outer Rim. Every deck has doubled in size, including job resolutions, making it feel a little less gamey. The new market cards reveal contacts regularly, letting you find the best crew more easily and making bounty hunting more viable. My favorite addition is the Ambitions. The game doesn’t end anticlimacticly with the delivery of a random cargo anymore. Now every player has a different endgame personal goal that ratchets up the tension and makes the end of a game feel much better, even when you lose.

Outer Rim, by itself, is a great game. Add in this expansion, however, and you’ve got an excellent game! The additions of more character encounter tokens adds more life to the board, and more cards for all decks helps keep the story from getting stale. One thing I really like it is the addition of ambitions—or roles—that players must fulfill in addition to achieving a certain amount of points. It provides some direction and helps build your character. The new solo “Bounty Hunter” is also a lot of fun to play against. Plus, each character has their own AI card to give each solo bot/AI a unique way of playing. One of the big problems of the base game was getting trapped on one edge of the board when you needed to get all the way to the opposite side. With the Core Worlds addition, there’s now a shortcut. However, it’s thematically appropriate that there are encounters if you choose that path, and some of those encounters may be quite risky. I love that addition! Overall, I’m really enjoying the Unfinished Business expansion. It breathes new life into an already great game. Plus, Cad Babe has always been a personal favorite so it’s exciting to actually get to play as him now! Woot!
