“With many theme, V, or Ex decks, the cards are basic (level 1s) and not great for competitive play. My son really enjoyed Pokémon Academy, and similar decks, but he got frustrated by his inability to do well against other players.
The deluxe battle decks have more advanced cards and in my opinion are good enough to justify building off of. They are more expensive, but are great when on sale.
I got him several of these to Jumpstart him now that he is ready.”
