“While the core idea of three biomes and engine building are the same, Wyrmspan expands on Wingspan by dropping the randomness of the bird feeder and adding excavating caves and the guild board to gather resources and expand your engine. It won't replace wingspan, but will be familiar to those who have played it.”
“I like it. It's got more complexity going on, a lot more planning going on, and the resource frustration that sometimes was a drag in Wingspan is gone. This may not be the best game for someone expecing a dragon-themed Wingspan as there are more things to keep track of, and ways to get things and points.”
“Very familiar look, feel, and mechanisms compared to Wingspan (which we also love). But it's different enough that it has its own identity and both of them have a place on my shelf. It does seem to be a tighter game in the sense that resources were harder to get than in Wingspan and required more careful management. Eggs, for example, are a more precious comodity. Love the theme, art is beautiful, and pieces are high-quality. Very glad to have purchased it.”
“This is a good game. My girlfriend and I both love Dragons, so the theme of the game works very well for us. Gameplay is simple and easy to learn, and the game flows very well once playing.
Components are good quality, the eggs are the best part of the components. My "Caves" and "Dragons" board has a slight warp in it and doesn't lay completely flat, but that doesn't affect game play.”
“Wyrmspan is an incredible transformation of Stonemaier's popular Wingspan game, but with cute (and fierce? and doofy? and majestic??) dragons. The shifts from Wingspan are complex, leading to a game that is far more strategically satisfying from Wingspan's cozy-chic vibe (without leaving the joy of collecting creatures that makes Wingspan so enjoyable). Fans of Wingspan and fans of engine-building games should all try it out!”
