If your board game collection is short on 2 player games, then you'll want to check this title out. It is a chess-like tile placement game where each player has the same number and type of tiles which all have their own unique movement abilities. The game feels really dynamic as the shape of the board changes as you move your insects around the hive. I was also really pleased with the size of the tiles in the pocket edition and couldn't imagine needing the tiles to be larger. The pocket edition also comes with two of the games expansions adding the ladybug and the mosquito. Great game, you should buy it.

Simple game in the kin of chess but much more streamlined and fast. Quick to learn but hard to master. Probably the most mobile game I have in my collection.

Looked up reviews first and saw the pocket version while smaller did include the first two expansions. After receiving and playing I am super happy with my purchase. Again, while smaller than the normal version, I think this is the exact right size. Also am happy going with this over the carbon version which would have probably been harder for my wife as having the color coding does help over just black and white. This game is very easy to teach and very portable to throw in a bag and play on any flat surface. Definitely this goes into my top 10 two player game list due to ease to learn, quality, portability, and concept.

Took Hive Pocket with me on a recent backpacking trip. It's small, although not the lightest (those tiles are solid and quite hefty!). The game is easy to teach and fun to play. A bonus that you don't need a table to play, just a relatively flat surface. My friend and I had a good time challenging each other. The pieces offer some really dynamic play, although your main piece - the queen bee, is really limited. I think the pillbug expansion would give you some defensive capability that the game currently lacks. I will be ordering the set soon.

Now that bar culture is returning, I wanted to find a game that I could easily tote to play with friends over a few drinks. Hive: Pocket is great for that! Fun, little game that truly fits in your pocket. You can learn it the rules in about a minute and then you and a friend can jump right in. Love!

The rules are seemingly simple but the game has a surprising amount of depth to it. Would recommend to anyone.

This is a fantastic abstract game, often described as chess without the board. I can't argue with that description, this is a very deep game in a very small size. This can be played on pretty much any flat surface and comes in a nice bag for portability. I keep this in my work bag to play in any downtime and considering its easy to teach and the average game only lasts 10 minutes, I would have to say this is one of the best portable games on the market.
