“I've had this phone a week now. I've had Xperias since they first came out (so around 5-6 years), and before that I had a mix of Sonys and Nokia's. Microsoft ruined Nokia so it was a joy to hear they were back on the Android market, and still hailing from Finland (not bought out by China). There were no flagships for a while and then the 8 came out at the same time I was due for a refresh so I took the plunge.
This phone is a joy to hold and use. Stock android, speed on par and sometimes a fraction quicker than a Galaxy S8 (tested multiple times/apps). The dual lenses on the back work a treat - don't be fooled by 'only 13 megapixels' - in some photos this camera puts my old 23mp Xperia X to shame, mostly in places where lighting is low/high and or there is significant depth.
The hardware design is slightly minimalist, but minimalist is to be expected from a Finnish company. It's beautiful to hold, doesn't offend anyone, and comes in some nice hues. The fingerprint sensor is instant and the screen is one of the brightest on the market and I can vouch for that. Very happy. Got high hopes for the new Nokia team's future if they can start like this.
Just one gripe - all the reviewers on the web seem to think that £499 is expensive for a flagship - I'm not sure what hole they're living in when Samsung and Apple want circa £1000 for theirs.”
