Huawei P20 Pro Reviews

I love this phone! It's sleek, the camera is amazing and it has the battery life of an old school Nokia. I kept location on and even after 3 days it was only at 50%. Such a good quality phone for the price.

So far I've found little if anything to criticise this phone for. It's nicely organised, fast and the camera is superb (especially at night). Battery life seems exceptionally good too. The facial recognition software also seems very reliable.

Since the cost of this phone is more than double my previous model, I was expecting it to be amazing. To be fair, it's great; but it's not twice as good as my last phone. Sure, I love the camera options, and they are better than my old OnePlus One (3GB/64GB), but are they twice as good? I used to enjoy taking photospheres while out on my travels, but those aren't supported on the Huawei. I do, however, like all the Huawei modes, especially the low-light options, but features like the fake-bokeh and beauty mode simply end up making the photo look photoshopped in my opinion. The sharpening is overdone, and the contrast and saturation look like they're on steroids. So I went out for the day and took a bunch of photos to impress my wife. When I returned, I thought it would be straightforward to share them on my lovely 4K LG smart TV, but I couldn't for the life of me get them to talk, and I'm a computer/IT person. Wait...what? I'll have another go sometime, but it really shouldn't be that difficult, surely. I mean, doesn't everyone want to do that? With all that lovely RAM (6GB), I expected all the regular phone functions to be super quick, but I can't say that the speed difference was noticeable between the Huawei and my four year old OnePlus. Oops. And there were a few clever OnePlus Android tweaks that Huawei doesn't offer (like being able to shake my phone to silence the alarms), although I managed to get a similar result using an Android tasking app. As for the screen, sure it's OLED, so the black parts of the screen are subtly darker (not remarkably, only subtly), but when I played an HD video on both phones side by side, I actually thought the four-year-old LCD screen on the OnePlus (that isn't even genuine OnePlus because I smashed it and had it replaced with a generic screen) looked more vibrant. Maybe I'll have to try tweaking the Huawei controls a bit. As for the battery, yes, 4000mAH is great. It's certainly good for a day's usage (while the battery is new). And now another gripe, the Huawei vibrate option is too feeble. I went into a church and changed to vibrate mode. I am used to my OnePlus alerting me to incoming messages and so forth, but when I left the church, I pulled the Huawei from my jacket breast pocket (right next to my chest) and found a couple of missed notifications. I simply hadn't felt the vibration. Hmm... I'm hoping the Huawei will grow on me, but so far it feels somewhat overpriced. I was, however, impressed with mobiles.co.uk. Can't fault 'em.
