A favorite with my 2 and 5 year olds. Requires significant supervision to avoid losing the tiny tacks. Can require a third hand to stabilize the shape when tiny fingers cannot hold the hammer, the tac, and the shape all at the same time.

I have used this so far with a young 3-year old and an almost 4-year old boy. They both enjoy it very much. The older one actually makes designs with the various shapes and the younger one just enjoys nailing shapes onto the cork board so far. The nails are very short and rather tricky to hold between two fingers, so it is good to have the shape present to hold up the nail for greater ease in hammering.

I teach in Columbus, Ohio and this activity has been AWESOME for my kiddos. Each year students struggle more and more with traditional fine motor skills such as using scissors, tying shoe laces, and handwriting. This amazing activity works on so many great things for children - for example - visual motor integration is a huge skill that helps kids communicate between their eyes and hands. In Kindergarten, children who aren't able to copy a circle, or write letters at the same pace as the class start to feel frustration and sometimes begins a negative attitude towards school - this awesome TAP & TACK activity was the tool I needed to help my kids practice, practice, practice!
