This knife has a beautifully sharp edge on it out of the box, and the edge retention is lovely! No fancy bells and whistles, just a stellar knife that isn't priced too high!

I own a small collection of Japanese knives; all with different steel. When searching for my next knife I really wanted R2 powdered metallurgy steel for its sharpness and edge retention. Well, the Takamura is the one to get based on customer reviews, price point, and quality comparisons. At the $160 range (and with free shipping when available), the Takamura is the best value out there. This knife is light and nimble in the hand, OOTB sharpness is quite high and can take an even finer edge, the fit and finish are very good with a nice thin tapered tip, and it cuts superbly! Had I started with this Takamura when first getting into Japanese knives, the need for lesser (although good) knives would've been unnecessary - and saved me lots of time and money. The Takamura has zero buyers remorse and offers continual kitchen delight. Enjoy!

This knife is an addiction. This guyto is insanely thin and breathtakingly sharp. Looks like MTC offers the lowest, a lot cheaper than chefknives2go SP $. Is it because they are only authorized importer for takamura?? Definitely I'm coming back to their pairing.
