Very sturdy eraser for the Shapton Glass series. Fixed my 1000 and 4000 grit with in about 90 seconds. A bit hefty so be prepared if you’re hauling it around. Beautiful piece and happy with every bit of the purchase.

I started with sandpaper and granite. Then Norton, Then DMT Diaflat. None come close to the precision of the Shapton. The diamonds are evenly distributed, unlike the DMT diaflat, which would not even flatten. But the Shapton increases the life of your stone due to it's accuracy. Best. I have not tried the reference one, as I really do not thing +-1.5 microns will make much of a difference for me. I'm sure it does make a difference though. lol Someday I'll get the reference.

I know there are hundreds of positive reviews on this diamond plate. Yes, my Sharpton revived after using it. But what makes you to buy such a expensive product only to flatten stone...

I have purchased 3 of these plates for my restaurants. My chefs are so pleased with them. We have a set of the Shapton stones at each of them as well. I thought they were a little too expensive at first but I thought why not. Ever since I set up a sharpening station in each kitchen, the cooks apparently have started to sharpen their knives regularly. According to my sous chefs, there is less food wasted because the cooks have sharper knives. I spoke to Harrelson (the rep for Shapton in the US) and actually got him to come in for a sharpening demo at one of my restaurants. It was a very educational session even for me. Very knowledgeable and interesting guy who's passion for sharpening blades is almost contagious!

there really is no point in using a sharpening stone when it's not flat. i think a lot of people don't realize how important it is to keep the stones flat. some people might find this to be too expensive but it honestly is the best lapping plate out there. i use shapton glass stones as well.

I'm a pastry cook but I bought this for my huband's birthday present because he uses Shapton stones. He sharpens my knives too and I must say, my knife cuts have gotten much better. I was quite inspired by the video as well!
