I purchase my first Shapton #500 Glass Double Thickness stone several years ago and it has become one of my favorite stones. I follow the Tormek 1000 grit wheel with this stone when first sharpening a knife that needs a proper bevel (even the good knives are mostly sharpened at too steep of an bevel). The #500 Glass does a great job of primary sharpening, or, of following the Tormek Standard 1000 grit wheel, and, seems to be very wear resistant. Much more wear resistant than the Shapton 320 Pro. I liked this stone so well that I bought the recent purchase as a "backup" in case I dropped the first one. Note that I also bought a backup Shapton 1000 Pro for the same reason. Maybe I should try the #1000 Glass Stone too?

It is an excellent, efficient and fast stone for sharpening my knives. I have the thin version but I liked it so much that I bought this one. You will not regret this purchase, I guarantee it.

Having the extra 5mm of workable "stone" is a real luxury in this 10mm 500 grit. I also had the 5mm version of this stone, but now I don't have to worry about conserving stone when reprofiling a blade.

As a knife maker, this stone is an absolute must for setting the initial edge. I use this stone after an atoma 140, and it removes the previous scratches. This stone wears slow and cuts fast, a great choice for the slightly heavier duty tasks. I purchased the regular and the extra thick version and I'd recommend the thicker version as it's twice as thick and comes with a holder.

Wonderful stone. Now I know why they came so highly recommended by those who sharpen professionally. A great complement to the 2000 grit glass stone.
