The choices for me were Tenryo Hi-Soft, Hasegawa FSR, or this Asahi. So glad I chose the Asahi. Japanese knives receive absolutely wonderful feedback from the board, allowing for faster work than I expected. Not as hard as some Reddit reviews led me to believe, which makes me think the Hi-Soft and especially the Hasegawa would have been too soft. Working with a knife on a wood board produces that familiar "rapping" or "knocking" sound. Working with a knife on the Asahi produces a soft "thud" sound. Very pleasant. Worth the price!

I see now what the hype is all about. I've been collecting Japanese knives for a few years now, but never had a proper cutting board and yes, I have chipped some of them. :( The feel of your knives on this board is so satisfying. Knives perform at their best and don't get stick in the rubber like with plastic, and it's much softer than a wood board. I have chipped knives on wood with very little effort (with the exception of cypress - which is also excellent and I highly recommend as an alternative). I plan on getting another smaller Asahi for small jobs as well. One thing to mention, I got the 23" x 13" Asahi board so I would have the luxury of a large work surface and it is a luxury for sure. Storage on the other hand, I did not think about beforehand. Still trying to find a place to store this. And my kitchen is very large. It's thick, and heavy, and it will bend if not stored properly, so this is my advice to anyone considering a large Asahi rubber board.

I love it! It’s gentle on my regular kitchen knives as well as my sushi knives!

Really good kitchen cutting board. When you cut fish, it is not slippery at all.

The Board is very heavy, stains easily, and is difficult to clean.
