Jeff Gottlieb was an absolute treasure of a teacher.

Really enjoyed the hands on learning. There was time to hear how to do the skill and then put it into practice. Useful skills for being on the move even if you lose your backpack or don’t have supplies.

I learned a lot and got very inspired to learn more about plants (especially trees) and how this knowledge can help in survival situations. It was neat to observe, learn about and try various fire starting techniques that I know I will cherish for the rest of my life.

This class is excellent for beginners and as a refresher for those that might have some experience in the past. Unless you are very confident and sure about your outdoor skills, it would be hard not to recommend this to anyone. For beginners and novices, it should be a requirement. If there is any mild criticism of the class, it is that there can be a very wide variation in skills and experience levels of those taking the class. This would have to be considered very minor and not a valid reason for those with some experience not to take the course. For those more experienced, confirmation and more practice of those skills is always going to be very important, especially if you are ever put in a position to call on Survival Skill. Good Job Guys!

I wanted science based training with plenty of hands on practice, not some kind of crucible style harrowing event. This course was exactly what I wanted. The instructors were very experienced and happy to take tons of time explaining tools and techniques; they answered questions about gear and trip planning in a very open and helpful manner. Highly recommended. I will definitely be back for more classes.
