I chose to do raft guide school with NOC as a way to learn more skills and have some fun, and the team at the Outdoor Center certainly exceeded my expectations. My instructors Nicole, Johnny, Garrett and Nate shared their knowledge and passion for rafting in a fun and professional environment. The format encouraged all participants to achieve their best, building river reading skills, improving power strokes, teaching safety and rescues, and sharing what it’s like to be a guide. The food was great too! Chef Ron always had us looking forward to breakfast, lunch and dinner. Talk about some biscuits and gravy! I’d do this class over and over again. Spending a week with these instructors, on a great campus, surrounded by rivers and mountains, building skills and friendships is an experience not to be missed! Great job Nantahala Outdoor Center, you guys are excellent!

Absolutely fantastic course. We had 15 people in our group spread out over 4 boats. From retirees to college students, everyone had different motivations to attend. We had people who had never been on white water before and we had people who previously completed guide schools. Great value, fantastic instructors, and the food was pretty good. I would warn that the beds aren't comfortable so bring a camping mattress (twin size). Covid protocols were all enforced as well.

I found this school/class while looking for a good deal on a rafting trip for myself. My expectations were to challenge myself guiding a raft and learning some new skills. It was so much more. The people in the class, employees, and travelers are some of the best quality group I have had the pleasure to be part of. I learned so much more than the syllabus. You spend and awesome amount of time on the water. A lot of guide time. Any questions are answered. Campfires after dinner every night. Facilities have everything you need. Clean. Just go.

I'm a 62 year old retired teacher and life-long kayaker whose recently retired brother bought a raft as a retirement present to himself. We attended guide school to broaden our whitewater skill set. A completely positive experience! The teaching staff was positive and knowledgeable. The accommodations were suitable. The food was very good. I would recommend this school for any aspiring raft guides or anyone looking for an outdoor experience.
