The Free Style Libre measures glucose levels through a small sensor applied to the back of your upper arm. It provides real time glucose readings for up to two weeks. It is designed for use in the management of diabetes, however may be a useful tool in the prevention of diabetes and in the maintenance of optimal metabolic health, ideally in consultation with a health care practitioner.How to apply the sensor: The FreeStyle Libre 2 sensor is applied on to the back of the upper arm with a simple, disposable applicator device (included). When the sensor is applied, a thin, flexible and sterile fibre is inserted painlessly just under the skin. The sensor is designed to stay in place for 2 weeks, however we recommend using an Opsite FlexiFix dressing to reduce the chance of the sensor dislodging from your skin.How to use the sensor:Download the FreeStyle Libre app from the app store onto your phone. To start obtaining glucose readings, perform a scan of the sensor with your phone. The reader can scan through light clothing. After a 60-minute warm up period, you will receive automatic glucose readings to your phone every minute, as long as the sensor and app are within 6 metres of each other. If you have lost connection, you can scan the sensor with the app and up to 8 hours of data will be back filled. This means that in order to have continuous data you either need to have the app and the sensor within range of each other, or scan every 8 hours.
