The Briggs and Stratton 8kW standby generators automatically keep your home powered up during unexpected power outages, even if you are not home. When an outage occurs, the generator starts and the 50 amp, 10-position automatic transfer switch selects generator power―all within just a few seconds―to keep the essential electrical loads that keep your home safe, secure, and comfortable operating with minimal interruption.
Placement & Safety
With a front-facing exhaust and full compliance with NFPA 37 (National Fire Protection Association) placement of internal combustion engines, these standby generators have more placement options than similarly priced and sized generators. The thermally activated, automatic fuel shutoff valve and non-combustible, all steel cabinet and base with the smallest footprint its power class make these standby generators safe for installations as close as 18 inches to the home―perfect for small yards, tight lot lines, and inconspicuous placement.
Engine
The 8 kilowatt standby generators feature a new Briggs & Stratton 500cc OHV engine designed specifically for long-term reliability and performance. When the power goes out, you can be sure the generator will start, run, and keep running until utility power is restored. Simple access to the engine makes routine maintenance easy and convenient for oil, filter, and spark plug changes.
Briggs & Stratton configures their generators at the factory to run on either natural gas or liquefied petroleum (LP) gas, eliminating the need to configure the generator during installation.
Controller
At the heart of the system is the onboard controller which monitors the engine, alternator output, and safety sensors that include low oil shutdown, low frequency or voltage, engine temperature, engine status, transfer switch status, and battery condition. The controller operates the generator to maintain the output voltage at the correct frequency and level for power as clean as that from the utility―perfect for operating computers and other sensitive electronics.
Appearance and Noise
At less than 80db, the 8kW standby generator from Briggs & Stratton isn't much louder than a five-ton central air conditioner. Sitting on its base, the generator is 35 inches high, 28 inches wide and 24.4 inches deep, giving it the smallest footprint in its power class. The case is made from Gavanneal steel―the same steel used by the automotive industry―for a long lasting, chip and rust-resistant finish that performs well even in a coastal climate to keep the generator looking good for years to come.
Optional Accessories
Cold-weather kits that include a battery warmer and two oil heaters ensure the generator will start, even in cold weather. The battery warmers are thermostatically controlled, and the kits are tested at 20 degrees below zero.
Wireless monitors install easily and eliminate going outdoors to check on the generator. The basic wireless monitor mounts anywhere indoors to keep you informed of the generator's status and operation.
Get all your maintenance supplies in kit form including oil, oil filters, air filters, and spark plugs. With a maintenance kit, you know you have the right supplies. Keep extra kits ready so you have the parts you need to keep the generator running during a long-term power outage.
Briggs & Stratton 8kW standby generators come with 4-year parts, labor, travel warranty.
