I purchased 2 Cummins 2500i generator 6 months ago. Ive put 20 hours on them thus far. I bought it from a site that sent it to Colorado. Buried deep in specifications it notes: High altitude kit needed above 2000'. I don't consider 2000' HIGH ALTITUDE! Well when Cummins ships products to Colorado, one would think the FULFILLMENT DEPARTMENT would notice the COLORADO ADDRESS and inform the buyer "YOU NEED A HIGH ALTITUDE KIT!" HELLO Cummins is it to much to ask to just add the jet to the 2500i package so people above 2000' would still be okay to use the generator? Not only this but the website has a chart that A-D OR 3000'-7000' NEEDS SPECIFIC JETS. Well first off what if your using it at 8000' DOES JET "D" WORK AT 8000'? Okay so say you live in Denver THE "MILE HIGH CITY" and you purchase these units... right off the bat the generator will not function properly. As far as I am reconsidered I will go out of my way to inform potential costumers to "JUST BUY THE HONDA" you will be way happier. Okay next task, ORDER A HONDA EU2200i

This is the worst generator I have ever owned. Long time generator user and have owned Honda, Yamaha and harbor freight generators. I bought this as a high capacity generator for tire warmers (racing application). Upon first use, carb stuck open and spilled gas everywhere. Took 3 months to resolve with new replacement generator sent. Replacement generator has constant but intermittent vapor lock. Essentially unusable. Now sits in my garage as useless as a broken brick. Norwalk was nice but at its heart this product has been useless

I purchased the Onan Cummins P2500i as a replacement for our Yamaha EF2000is. First thing is the Yamaha extended run kit (oil fill tube, mag pickup and fuel cap) and parallel cables fit. For extended run capabilities, you need to return the fuel evaporator tube back (connected to the carbon canister to meet CARB standards) to your extended run tank's vent. Easy to start is a plus, a larger engine for the same weight means more peak power. Now for the downside. The spark plugs are easy to change for a good reason - they need to be changed regularly. The oil change interval is considerably shorter than the Yamaha or Honda service period. The pull cord fractured (at the handle) in the first weeks of operation even though it was never stressed. You have to disassemble the case and remove just about everything to get to the pull cord case. The pull handle is molded and can not be re-threaded - I put an old Honda pull handle on it and vola. There is no ability to fully shut off the fuel system and can it not be put on a plane or boat where it might tip and leak fuel (see the return fuel line description). The Ducar engine is very similar to the Honda and has the same problem with the crankcase ventilation tube freezing up in cold weather. Honda has a kit to fix this but the generator design is to new and not as well supported as the Honda. Someone should make a heater tube assembly to prevent this. Onan has been a very good generator manufacturer but has virtually no on-line support other than an exploded diagram. Also, there are no parts available yet and has very limited service organizations.
