“The wife recieved a Westinhouse induction cooker for xmas. Noting in power mode the cooker was rated at 800watts which cooked a treat in general. I measuered the current 4.2 amps on this setting.
These units dont blow out in the wind and the thought that this could be useful on trips away was seeded.
I have always had a small inverter in the camper for charging accesories and decided to upgrade with a product brand I trust as I use the brand AllSpark for solar power. I decided purely due to physical size to go for a 1000w inverter as my camper battery box simply did not allow for a 2000w unit. Working on a inrush capability of 1000/2000w specification I was relying on the 1000w unit to do the job.
All the gear for the job was available in store with recommended sizing specified for cables etc.
These induction cookers have a massive inrush on start up therefore the 1000w unit shut down as it has accurate protection when testing but would run sandwich makers etc. Not the fault of the inverter but simply sizing for the job. This was proven on the test bench at Offroad living as it would run on a 2000w inverter no problems.
To solve this I purchased a Maxim 800w small frypan for off grid. It runs and cycles with no issues. Its the best way to beat the wind we love and hate when cooking.
The induction cooker will still go on the odd trip for campsites with power.
Thanks Jason for the assitance with the testing.”
