So, what is a Reduced Supercharger Pulley?
Unlike a turbocharger, which is propelled by high-pressure exhaust gas, a supercharger is driven by a belt connected to the crankshaft. You, therefore, do not suffer the effects of 'turbo-lag' (where there are not enough exhaust gases to compress the quantity of air required lower down in the rev range). The MINI supercharger is the Eaton M45; which is a roots blower. This means that within the turbine housing, two specially crafted lobes with a minimal clearance of one another spin in order to compress air, which then passes through the horn, into the intercooler, out the other side and into the head and cylinder block. The way the lobes spin is that two cogs interlink at one end outside of the main air-flow path, and connect to a pulley on the outside of the turbine housing.

“Very happy with this kit. Have done a few motorsport events since fitting and car pulls well. My mechanic says belt will wear a lot quicker with the reduced pulley, so belt has already been replaced.”

Hi Euan, Thank you for your review. We have never encountered belts wearing quicker with smaller supercharger pulleys - the JCW was fitted with an 11% smaller pulley from factory, and did not require the belt to be replaced sooner than the S. We would always advise checking and changing the belt as often as required. Many thanks, Oli

“Great package, simple to fit and everything works together perfectly. Belt tool is a necessity and simple to use (will need a small allen key to lock the tensioner off) Pulley removal tool was out of stock when I made my purchase so, used a cordless Dewalt multi tool to cut in to the existing pulley to release tension and then popped off easily. As always the service from Orranje was first class. Highly recommend”
