“First the details. I went with an XL. I'm 5' 7", 175lbs. Waist 33-34 and chest 40-42. Bought an Alpine Vest in XL as well and the fit is identical. Like the vest the alpha fleece does a great job trapping air to insulate. I originally thought a mid-layer would also be needed for 35-45 degree weather but all I needed was a baselayer under the jacket. Been riding in windy, rainy conditions and it does a great job blocking wind. It does good against steady rain for about an hour and then as it saturates, it gradually gets cooler. The alpha fleece does lessen the impact of the cold when wet, but I wouldn't expect it to stand up to more than a few hours of good rain. Perfect fall/winter jacket. The side vents are handy at dumping a little heat and moisture from perspiration and to keep things from getting too clammy. Things I'd change: the side vents could be a little deeper so they could also act as small storage in a pinch for like an energy gel or bar. The main zipper pull is large enough to grab with winter riding gloves, but it can stay tilted up after zipping which can stab you in the chin later if you're not paying attention. The main zipper is not two-way. Would be nice if it were to help dump more heat by unzipping it up from the bottom to regulate. Reflective accents are great. Wish there were reflective bands on the sleeves large enough to help catch more light and show more motion to cars. Happy though with the jacket.”
