Hi there Some women have extremely thin vaginal and vulva skin, so applying anything can cause irritation...like putting antiseptic cream on a raw graze. The steady supply of estriol will gradually work to rebuild the tissue AND rebalance the bacteria in the vagina. This will help solve the soreness AND the itching. Itching can come from the "repair work" and it can also come from an imbalance of pH. Too high a pH sets a breeding ground for bacteria. Gradually, over time, the skin is repaired, and it produces more natural lubrication. The natural lubrication has a lower pH and so gradually the whole vagina pH will drop - creating an inhospitable environment for bacteria. For some women this happens quickly, for others, it happens more slowly, we are all so individual. One option could be to apply on the outer labia, rather than the vulva, where the skin is thicker and every other day. There is a large network of blood vessels in the whole area that the estriol will get delivered locally. We encourage patience; thinning vaginal skin doesn't happen overnight and so it can take a while to rebuild. To test if there is something in the cream that is irritating the skin - apply a pump to your inner wrist and see if there is a reaction. If not, it's likely the thinness of the skin.
