“The LX (or Luxe) fountain pen is a 2017 limited edition pen range from Lamy that genuinely deserves a five star rating. The Lx pen range contains four colour themes, each based on a precious metal: Gold, Rose Gold, Platinum and Rubidium. There are three pens types available: the fountain pen, rollerball and ballpoint pen. All pens in the Lx range are functionally similar to their Lamy Al Star counterparts and so the Lx fountain pen retains the highly attractive writing qualities of the instrument on which it is based and which make it so easy to write with whether it's jotting a thank you card for a gift or making lengthy notes in a lecture hall. In my opinion this is a very wise decision as Lamy have wisely left well alone all the parts that make the Al Star a fabulous writer's pen and focused on celebrating those attributes with a commemorative nib and precious metal plating of the cap end and metal clip. The additional price isn't just in the details on the pen itself. Each Lx comes in its own matching cylindrical case is designed to make sure the pen keeps its looks. Personally I rate the Al Star as one of the finest pens ever made. The Lx additions are well worth the extra price and with a broad range of nibs to suit anyone's hand or preference. The result is a pen that is very special, incredibly practical and something you may buy as a gift but actually end up keeping for yourself and wondering why we ever stopped using fountain pens at all. I know from the feedback I've got from friends that they make perfect gifts but I'm keeping this one for myself.”
