“I am a 77 year old Disabled person and this Garbage Disposal was pretty easy for me to install all by myself. Here's a "BIG TIP" for you... Although this unit is quite heavy and difficult trying to hold it up under the sink with your hands while trying to install it, I used a "Car Jack" under the sink to jack the Disposal into precise position and hold it there, while I finished installing it. WOW !!! Doing it as I did, will save you over $150.00 in Commercial Installation costs. When doing a "re-install" (where you will be replacing the "Original" Disposal), there is no need to replace the metal ring and putty, attached at the upper/outer top edge in the middle of the sink. And... a new rubber part comes with the new Disposal, and the old rubber part remains with the old Disposal which is all thrown away as one piece. This Disposal installed quite easily with the "Quick Install" rotating top, which worked great after installation. It came with the electrical cord and plug already hooked up and properly in place. (Oh... Be sure to read the instructions about using a hammer and screwdriver to remove a "small plastic plug" inside one of the side openings in the unit.)Copy and print these helpful directions and have them with you, when you are ready to start your installation. I really love this Disposal and thus gave it a Full 5 Stars! I would recommend this unit to everyone.http://www.plumbingsupplyandmore..com/InSinkErator-Badger-Garbage-Disposal-Power/dp/B00PM8STLM/ref=cm_rdp_productAltair Walker - Everett, WA”
“One of these came with our new house, and we used it for about a year and a half. It generally works about as expected. However, it has a great deal of trouble with tough and fibrous vegetable scraps. The problem is it shreds them just enough to pass through the relatively large holes in the grind chamber, and the long fibers can (and do) cause clogs. I finally gave up on it and upgraded to one with higher power and higher RPM. You can do a lot better than this for around the same money.”
“However it is so stupid that the instruction to installed with a dishwasher system comes only as point number 12. The device should come with a warning or a mark that the dishwasher connection is plugged.Yes, I felt stupid but after talking to another friend that installed his, he also agrees that it is easy to miss”
“I bought my home about 4 yrs ago and have used this insinkerator badger 5 since than. Unit may be older so if it went over 4 yrs, that's pretty damn good. Install was about 45 mins from begining to end and I did not have to install top components as they were in pretty good shape. The only difference I noticed is that my original model was 5-81 and I got a 5-87A, noticed after installing. Hope I got the upgraded version but turned it on and works great. Btw my old one had a leak from the bottom where the reset button is located.”
“I like this product enough to have purchased a replacement of the same kind, but my last one died after about a year and we never could figure out what the problem was. No detectable blockage, reset button didn't help, motor made noise but nothing turned and then it smoked and we gave up. But it works well and is easy to install!”
“Pulled out my old disposal and was ready to install this new disposal. Checked over the parts to verify the fit, especially the discharge tube connection. When taking the discharge tube out of the plastic bag the kitchen light shone on it just right to reveal a crack in the tube almost the entire 3 inch length, vertical portion. Called InSinkErator and after some discussion finally got them to agree to overnight a replacement discharge tube, of course that depends on when it will be shipped?? Originally the customer service person stated it would take 7-10 days to get this part. Was ready to ship the entire unit back to plumbingsupplyandmore. for a replacement. No real damage to the packaging, but the Styrofoam that holds the base and top of the disposal was in a number of pieces- disposal must have crushed the side of the discharge tube- needs better packing!”
