“I found this at a big box store, saved by getting on plumbingsupplyandmore. Exact same item. Didn't seem to take the technician long to put it in. I'm happy so far. I've only had this in for about a month.”
“Seems to be fine! We just now finished installation using the pre-existing flange. We’ve got a ceramic glaze, iron sink in the kitchen, so the depth of the drain hole is about 1.5”. I misinterpreted the “sink hole size” in the spec to mean the sink depth, so, of course, the flange which came with the Moen was too short. Having just returned a different disposal to plumbingsupplyandmore because its flange, also, was too short, I was embarrassed to be in the position of needing to return yet another! Fortunately, the old flange fits the new Moen. Sorry, Moen: the flange says “In-Sink-Erator” instead of “Moen”!Another oddity: the instructions (Step #13) imply there’s a slip nut at the end of the drain elbow. There’s an illustration of a pipe wrench connecting the slip nut to the U-trap. There are threads on the U-trap, but no slip nut comes with the Moen, nor is it evident how a slip nut would avoid slipping off the smooth, straight drain elbow. Cue Tim Allen. We used duct tape and some plumber caulk as a temporary fix until we acquire something like a “MySimpleDrain” solution. We’re happy the kitchen sink is back in business. Yes, we would buy this brand again (now that we are better educated!)Edit: Oh! I just need a slip washer/nut combo to compete the job. . .”
“Since we don't use our disposal that much went ahead and went down to 1/2hp model from 3/4hp when it came time for replacement/new sink install. So far this disposal has been great. Once first installed unit will click when turned on but that will go away once it has been in use for sometime. It's not that noisy as other people have complained but our Transolid sink has sound deaden mat attached on bottom of sink area to quieten overall harmonics. We're happy with our purchase. The unit includes 3-year warranty and non-pro 1/2hp comes with 4 year service stronger shaft seal - just fyi.”
“I purchased this disposal for the option of it not needing hardwiring, even though the disposal in my home was hardwired. I saw it as an opportunity for a mini appliance upgrade. In order to change from hardwired to plug-in, I purchased a heavy duty commercial Pass & Seymore Legrand GCM 20-Amp-Volt Black 3-Wire Grounding Connector from my local Lowes (under $20), using a plug in receptacle tester (under $10) to make sure I had the wires connected properly. It was an inexpensive, easy, and safe alternative to calling a plumber or electrician to make unnecessary under the sink or counter modifications. After the electrical modification, it was an easy install on the disposal which fit the bracket already on my sink. The only part that was somewhat challenging was cleaning, changing out, and leakproofing the PVC plumbing under and attached my sink and outgoing pipes. There was way more PVC routed under my sink than needed. All in all, if you're a DIY, first-time home owner, with enough technical skills, this is a smart purchase to make. Not super quiet, but it is easy on the pocket.”
“Liked: It went in easily and is as quiet as our old disposal.Don't like:. The black rubber grommet entry flapper seems to restrict the flow of water much more than the old one. We have to nurse the water and veggie choppings into this unit. Also, the grinder gets overloaded with the rind of one orange. Need to nurse in small bites.”
