1/8" Hy-Vent Air Vent for Water Heating Systems Reviews

4.7 Rating 176 Reviews
I ordered this air vent to replace our old Maid-O-Mist vent, which has started to leak water and was heavily covered by mineral deposits. The product arrived exactly as shown on photo, its build quality is excellent, well worth its price and should last many, many more years.

Between a faulty auto-fill valve and air vent, my second floor radiators would become air-locked. Replaced both and now I'm staying nice and warm! This is one of those preventative maintenance items you should replace every couple/few years.

works as it should. Had to change ex tank and auto fill valve and in a short time air was out of system.

The first one they sent me was the version that's two generations old, with a more complex mechanism inside that has reliability problems. Even though I installed it carefully and bought the pressure (12psi) up very gradually by pumping up the expansion tank with a bike pump, it leaked water out the vent hole continuously. The vendor (Standard Plumbing Supply) replaced it with the latest version at no charge, no questions asked. Gotta love 'em.

We live in the mountains where natural gas is abundant. Noticed the hot water would spurt and spit when turned on, sometimes extreme. Holding a lighter at the faucet when this occurred produced flames from the water. Decided to try this as a cheap way to stop this. On the hot water outlet side of the water heater, added a T fitting. Out of the side port, added a small length of pipe to a 90-degree fitting and then up to our hot water pipe. Straight out the top of the T, added pipe to just below ceiling and used a 90-degree fitting with a 1/8 inch female port to fit the hydro vent and plugged the other side. Put plastic tubing on the air vent and ran it to the outside of the wall. We can now turn on the hot water and no more spitting and sputtering and explosive venting from the faucet. Have to think outside the box.

It's equal if not better in quality compared to the original Mudbone vent.

Works very well. Ordered as a replacement for Bell & Gossett valve previously ordered and returned that leaked.
