Most balms I've used in the past are much softer and I put them on (rightly or wrongly - I don't know) much thicker.
This balm is more dense, and melts under the heat of your fingers and goes on in a light coat that you rub in, let sit and then buff as desired.
My Obenauf's is being retired from general service and been replaced by the balm.”
