“I am very impressed with the comfort and quality of the Driftwood watch strap, however, it is much darker brown (and less grey'ish) than pictured in the images. Still an excellent purchase.”
“When I saw pictures of this strap online I thought it looked sharp but that didn't prepare me for what I experienced in person. The quality of the leather and the outstanding comfort are something you have to feel in person. This is by far the best watch strap I own and it makes my watch seem brand new yet classic and classy at the same time.
I find myself staring at my wrist a lot and none of my other straps have made it back onto my wrist since this one arrived (about a month).”
“This was purchased in December 2018, and it’s now February 2020. I’ve worn it almost daily, so can definitely speak to the durability.
I’d say it’s aged extremely well. It’s very different than what it looked like when I first got it, but that’s the nature of good leather - just like us, it changes with experience. Some people may not appreciate how the color darkens, or how the thread color fades, or even how, over time, you have to change which hole you use as the strap stretches slightly. But as beautiful as it was when I first received it, I appreciate that it’s now even more unique and carries its own story.
Over the years I’ve purchased a few items from Popov, and I’ve always made the point the get driftwood, as I t’s interesting to see how each item ages differently according to its use. For example, aside from a few scratches, my valet tray is pretty close to what it was when I purchased it 2 years ago, while my wallet is a lot closer to my watch strap.
I wouldn’t consider the following negatives, but some points to consider:
Another review suggested more hardware finish options. Sure - that would be appreciated, but I think what it comes with compliments the leather well and should go with just about any watch.
The end of the strap with the holes is rounded off. I think the more standard style is more squared off with a light taper. No big deal, just a design choice to be aware of. Hope that makes sense.
You will see in the picture that the loop is pretty thick. I think it needs to be as it will get a little loose over time. When I’m wearing it, it sometimes slides off the other strap, so if it was thinner I don’t think it would do as good a job as it does.
All in all, as long as you are not planning on it looking like new for more than a couple weeks, this is a solid purchase. It’s hand made from good quality leather, so you know it won’t disintegrate or fall apart.
I guess the main problem is that I only wear one watch, so I don’t have a need to buy another.
Oh - and finally - at this point it’s so smooth an supple that I barely know I’m wearing it, which isn’t something I’ve experienced with a watch strap before.”
“The color is lovely. The smell is wonderful.
The construction is meh. I know the selling point is "hand sewn, artisanal, blah, blah, blah..."
But the stitching looks like it was rushed or by someone who doesn't stitch that often.
The keeper is way too wide.
The leather seemed to "crack" as it bent around my wrist and rub off as it passed through the buckle. Not great.
So for the discounted price I am pleased. But I wouldn't pay full price and don't believe I will be a return customer.”
“Exactly was I wanted to pair with my 007 watch. The leather is thick and has a presence about it. Looks chunky in a good way, and the stitching stands out. For a masculine watch this is a good band. I also got the same color belt and it pairs well.”
