The EXO SwingBase takes the standard hitch and turns it into the foundation for hauling. It's the base for all EXO components.

I have used the Yakima EXO SwingBase several times over the past year. Outside removing it at season's end and reinstalling it for the season (almost 70 lbs (31 kilos), once attached, it works great. Well-thought-out anti-theft attachment to the tow hitch and easy-to-use. Very secure anti-theft locking system for the GearLocker as well. Having only a 1 ¼ inch tow bar and using an adapter to a 2" fitting reduces the carrying weight by almost 40%. The professionals at Rack Attack did a great job of changing the 1¼ hitch on my vehicle to a 2" model.

very heavy but Yakima supplies a support strand for the elbow of the base which takes most of the weight off.

Works great! Seems solid and tight heavy enough for good stability but not ridiculous.

I am really impressed with the engineering and quality construction that went into this rack system. I have it mounted behind my Ram Promaster 3500 with a TopShelf, and a GearLocker on the SwingBase and a DoubleUp on the TopShelf. Because of the way the SwingBase swings out and the TopShelf pivots, not only can I easily open the rear door of the van, but I can also access the GearLocker. Everything about this system has been very well thought out. Even though the EXO system could be considered a bit pricey, once you see the quality of construction and ease of use, you will not even care and realize it was money well spent.
