1) The towers are very difficult to release from their landing pads. The latch cover is stiff and tight; how it operates is not initially intuitive or obvious or easy. 2) A proper installation of the towers is nearly impossible because the rails on the roof of my car - and many others like mine - holding the landing pads do not run exactly parallel. Neither the towers nor the landing pads have a toe-in or toe-out adjustment to compensate for this common problem. As a result, attaching the towers to their landing pads slightly torques each point of attachment. That, in turn, slightly distorts the rails, ultimately weakening the entire roof rack system and making the use of a loaded rack a safety risk. 3) The entire installation is subject to wind noise at even city street speeds, say 35 mph and up. I mention this here because the towers are an integral part of an installation that includes a round bar and a Yakima Boatloader EVO Kayak Rack, any of which may also contribute to the noise. (I will admit that I drive with the moonroof open to the back so I hear the noise more than I might if the roof were closed. But I should not have to sacrifice my enjoyment of a feature that came with my car because there is a problem with the roof rack system I chose.) Note: The context for all of this is my experience for over 15 years with an earlier model of a Yakima roof rack system of landing pads, towers and two round crossbars that together were easy to install, latch, lock, unlock, release and remove from landing pads installed directly on factory rails that were also not quite parallel. Somehow in the last 15+ years, the product of Yakima's current engineering has fallen short of its much earlier product.
