Seems really solid and well-built. The design looks good, and it folds up tightly. On a 2020 Jeep Wrangler JL, it has enough clearance to let the tailgate open with the stock rear tire- barely. You can't use the (unneeded) top bolt on the BackSwing, and the handle has to be unlatched, but then the gate will open.

This item has made my life so much easier. I own a Promaster camper van which I carry miscellaneous item in a cargo rack which prevented me from opening the back doors. The Yakima BackSwing Adapter solved this problem. So far the construction seems solid. The handle latch/pull it tight and solid so much so it is difficult to release at times. (I use the butt end of a small hammer to pry it up & off) I haven’t had any issues with the swing adapter. The only thing I would put out there is if you have a Promaster van (or low profile vehicle) make sure you have the correct size wrench or socket to remove it in the event of a mechanical issue requiring a tow. Otherwise you may not be able to get it up onto a flat bed due to it inhibiting standard clearance in the rear once the front is lifted. Overall I think it is a great product and would recommend it to others.

I use this for a spare tire carrier on a 2019 Subaru Outback. I have a Thule tire mount bike rack I strap down when I go off-roading and overlanding. It works great for easy access to my gear when I set up camp.

We have been using our rack for the past two years on our Promaster Adventure Van. It has worked out with no problems on our travels across Canada and back home to Vancouver Island. #cowichan_adventure_van

I love the backswing so that I can leave the bikes on the rack and swing them away so we can access the back of my pickup camper.
