Wow. Applying the MuralGurad was WWWAAAYYY more harrowing than anticipated. There were two of us, we both painted murals a block apart. We decided to pool our resources and apply the topcoat on the same day. It's fall and the nighttime temps were bouncing below 30, so timing was dicey. Finally, two days back-to-back appeared with temps within the suggested range. We knew once the two parts were combined we had a working time of 90 minutes or less. Both of us had read and reread the application instructions. We had done a small test the week before so were prepared for the milkiness of the initial application. What we were NOT prepared for was how incredibly quickly the topcoat began to dry and how difficult it was to roll out the bubbles and streaks from the roller. It was very stressful and panicky. We both experienced the topcoat drying to the touch within about ten minutes or less. Each of us finished rolling on the topcoat almost gasping for breath due to the stress and timing of it. Fortunately the bubbles and roller marks mostly disappeared. The finish is uneven on both murals. We have convinced each other we are the only ones who will notice. Damn! Beware...be prepared to work way faster than anticipated and be prepared to be panicked.

Yes, the stated pot life on MuralGuard is 2 hours but higher temps and/or direct sunlight will shorten that. So marking the mix-time is very important. As with most high-performance coatings in this category, roller application comes with unique concerns. Those concerns are bubbles deposited by the roller cover and the laplines created. Both of these need to be addressed before the coating dries. Additionally, the resulting finish can be uneven when there is a lack of film-thickness uniformity. This is why we list the required film thickness (5-6 wet mils) on the technical data sheet. We highly recommend reviewing the TDS before starting the application of MuralGuard as well as using a wet-film gauge to ensure proper coverage. Please feel free to reach out to our technical assistance reps to discuss future projects as we want to ensure you start on the right foot.
