“I was distracted by a financial issue and banged my carafe into the ratio coffee maker I have had for 8-10 years. I cracked the glass. It wasn’t leaking but went online to replace it, just to be safe. The new carafe arrived within the week and it was stunning. “I purchased a Ratio Six coffee maker, which is a fantastic coffee maker. However, I did not want to use the stainless steel thermal carafe, since it contains the cancer causing material Styrene. I purchased the glass carafe and its associated Kone filter to replace the stainless steel thermal carafe and it works great. The coffee never tasted better and I can rest easier knowing that I am not exposing myself or my family to any harmful chemicals.”
“I have been using a Ratio 6 w/thermal carafe, which I like mucho. I had fond memories of several decades of coffee brewed with a Chemex, and was tempted by the beautiful Ratio blown glass carafe. I would like to separate the carafe from the Kone in the review. Kone is a beautifully made object and looks great sitting in the carafe, and this is probably more my problem, but I did not like the fine sludge at the bottom of the cup. It was difficult to clean when you can not allow grounds to go down the drain. So I now have a beautiful industrial designed object. The glass carafe is great! I now use Chemex filters, no problems at all. The coffee taste is another degree smoother than the thermal carafe. The down side is - I am spending longer over coffee in the morning instead of heading to the studio.”
