Best maker I've had yet - I'm almost 69 yrs. "young", and have had over 3 dozen types, incl. very high-ends. This beats them in ease of use, style, actual temps, and of course, flavor when high-end coffees are used. Yes, I'm probably a coffee snob, but the comments from my guests are proof of the pudding! I accidentally tossed out the Heat Shield in the trash, but the unit/coffee is not compromised in my opinion, although I would like to purchase such if available as a "spare part".

Revised rating and comments: Well I should have read the reviews first about the suggestion to tip the carafe first before opening it to pour the coffee. Problem solved about coffee not pouring out very well. I don't know if this suggestion is in the instructions or not but you should consider adding it to them.

Appreciate the feedback, Thomas! We're adding a removable decal to the thermal carafe that advises to tip the carafe over before opening the pour spout. Cheers!

The Ratio Six is the best coffee maker. I have it in black and silver. It makes the most delicious, hot coffee, and cleaning ie easy. The carafe is beautiful and easy to pour.

Decided to try the Ration Six after our Moccamaster died after 7 years. Glad we did. It’s great and gets the coffee hot and the thermal carafe is great. I would change on how it pours, you have to tilt the carafe a lot to pour the remaining coffee.

This machine is one of those rare situations of you actually get what you pay for! Rather than slapping a bunch of ideas and features together to try to entice buyers, ratio stuck to their principles and designed the best straight forward automatic drip coffee maker period. It is clear that they paid attention to the critiques of other machines to improve upon known design flaws. Before getting the ratio I purchased a technivorm moccamaster, and after a period of disappointing trial and error I couldn’t get an even extraction and sent it back. When I received the ratio I was brewing delicious coffee almost right off the bat! Buried in the directions they recommend a grind size similar to sugar in the raw, they really mean that. Go to the store and buy some, it is much coarser than you think. Once you get it dialed in... your tastebuds will thank you! Others mentioned problems pouring out of the carafe. It is not an issue if you tip it over before pressing down on the button. Also, the carafe has a little splash guard that allows you to pour with the lid off which is a major plus! I would play around with using the machine with and without the steam guard. I prefer the taste of the coffee brewed without the guard in place. As side note their customer service is excellent and they seem to be a truly good company.

Overall it appears very well made and thoughtfully designed. I have had the Ratio 6 for about 1 week, and am still dialing in the grind and the grams, at about a pot a day. The thermal carafe does a great job of maintaining temperature. The cover for the basket filter system works really well. My only complaint, and the reason this product does not get 5 stars, is the pour spout on the carafe. In order not to dribble coffee down the outside of the carafe, I need to first hold the carafe at 90 degrees (horizontal) and then slowly and partially...not fully...depress the lever that opens the valve to let the coffee pour. To empty the last of the coffee in the carafe I need to hold it at about 120 degrees from vertical, which inevitably results in some dribbling or splashing. I hope Ratio re-engineers a better carafe, which I would purchase. Otherwise, this is a wonderful product!
