After using the Ratio Six for a month or so after our old Bonavita unit stopped heating, the Ratio Six does make a great pot of coffee. Functionally it works extremely well and the build quality is excellent. That said, a several small design gripes that have nothing to do with the quality of the coffee work: first, the cord connects to the unit in an awkward way so there is always a kink in the cord at the unit. Secondly, the start button is very sensitive - touch capacitive - and can get triggered when the unit is moved. Finally, the button location at the end of the unit is an odd placement since you need to fill the unit when it is perpendicular to you and then always repostion by 90 degrees so that one can see the “on” button to start the process. Maybe there was an engineering reason to put it there. Anyway, lots of moving around of a fairly heavy unit is required and then careful not to brush against the start button! If it wasn’t for these shortcomings, the rating would have been higher. It’s hard to know the engineering challenges and the reason for these decisions which the Ratio folks went through but it makes a great pot of coffee and cleans up great. No regrets on the purchase all things considered. Hoping these minor items get fixed on the next version.

It DOES brew a smooth and HOT cup of coffee! I was skeptical, but it really does! I’m grinding slightly larger than medium grind and only use 45 grams of coffee to a full pot. I have been using the Ratio filter papers. I also purchased the Ratio glass carafe to brew with Chemex filters. I had to lift up and move the rubber pad/magnet on the bottom about half an inch to get it centered under the water spout. Otherwise, it was not quite in the center and the water stayed on one side of the Chemex filter. It will not work if the magnet is not in the correct location. That’s the only “juggling” I had to do. I am pickier than most when it comes to coffee. It’s nice that you can remove and stick the rubber mat back onto the glass with no issues. In all honesty, it is hard to tell the difference between the Ratio filters with the intended brew method and the glass carafe with Chemex filters! I generally like the Chemex method most and consider it the best way to brew. THAT says a lot about the quality of the coffee this brews. I don’t know about the longevity of it yet. Time will tell. The support at Ratio has been very good and willing to answer any questions.

The first one did not work after three days. Sadly, I donated my old coffee maker after setting the new one up, so this necessitated me to go buy ANOTHER maker while I waited the week to get my replacement. Not sure how this could have been handles differently, but it stinks that I am now the owner of a cheap $50 coffee maker that I needed during the repair/replace time. My second one had issues as well. A call to Ratio (and troubleshooting with Ratio online) I found out that adding the water the night before brewing can lead to air bubbles. Sadly, this is no where in your manual. Disappointed at this entire process. Now that I am up and running I like the machine, but this was a LOT of work (and extra expense of a cheap coffee maker) that should never have happened.

The Ratio Six hits all the right notes. Brew Temp: check Bloom phase : check Grounds saturation: check Well insulated thermal carafe: check After three weeks with the Ratio Six I am more than satisfied. Everyday I am amazed at the flavor the brewer can bring out of my home roasted coffee. Before I bought the Ratio Six and had tried out a Technivorm Moccamaster. Although it could produce a really good cup of coffee it required a lot of work. I had to cycle it on and off and do my own bloom phase with a manual pour over water kettle. What’s the point of spending that much money and I still had to do a lot of work. The Ratio Six does all that for you. And it’s a flat bottom brewer which gives a better extraction than the cone filter on the Technivorm. I am a very satisfied customer.

The on/off button is TERRIBLE. I love the machine, love the coffee taste. However, the button sometimes takes two minutes to get to function.
