“I’m impressed with everything to do with Ratio products from packaging, graphics, design to performance.
I do have 2 constructive criticisms:
1. Unlike the perfect coffee temperature of brewing 2 cups- a 1 cup brew is only warm.
2.There is no practical way to dry the reservoir- even with filtered water( no minerals ) reservoir is spotted, detracting from the design.”
Hello Robert! Thank you for the feedback. A few quick tips:
- If you are doing a very small amount of coffee like 10-12 ounces you can overfill the water tank by a little bit and turn the brewer on to run the water through until the water level is where you want it to be for brewing. This will warm up the internal components / handblown glass water lines / and carafe, leading to a hotter cup of coffee.
- Have you tried keeping the water tank lid on its side until the tank dries out? Also, our RatIo Wash will eliminate any water spots on the tank.
Hope this helps! Let us know anything we can do.
“Incredible-quality coffee, every single time, and without fail. I couldn’t recommend this experience more, not only for the product but also for the attention I’ve received from Ratio’s staff well into my first two years of ownership!”
“Kids and I bought wife . we were weekend pour over people because of time. no my wife makes coffee every morning with the ratio 8 . everyone loves it. buy the best and you wont be disappointed . My wife's favorite gift ever. and I bought her a new German suv for anniversary a year before !”
“The Ratio 8 is a beautiful piece that also makes great coffee. I have found that using 78 g of coffee at 20 on an Baratza Encore is the sweetspot for me. I have tried Chemex filters, Vario V60 03 filters, and a Barista Warrior filter but have settled on the Chemex and Vario. The thermal carafe and dripper worked better with beans that did not bloom as much (Stumptown, Intelligentsia) vs Peet's who has a tendency to bloom into the machine at 78g. I found that the preparation for Peet's is what tastes best for me since the taste is fuller and have settled for using the glass carafe to brew into. Lastly, I have found that using room temperature water is a little safer for developing full bloom since cold water has a lower chance of fully covering the ground beans.”
“My husband splurged and bought this as a Christmas present for me and unfortunately by the time I opened it the return window had passed. It is BEAUTIFUL and looks lovely on our counter but does not brew a hot cup of coffee....I have to microwave a cup immediately to make it drinkable. And the pot goes cold as soon as it's brewed. Sure wish we could have returned it because it is way too expensive to just sit on the counter looking pretty. :(”
Hi Katie,
I'm sending you a note directly - I'm sorry to hear you weren't satisfied with the temp of the coffee! I'm sending some options for a thermal carafe at special pricing.
Best,
Mark
“Six months ago I bought the perfect coffee maker - so I thought. We are a family of four who drink a lot of coffee, and all the machines we had in the past lasted about one year, then broke. The French press and pour over methods were good but time consuming. And on mornings when everyone was rushing off to work, too slow.
So when my daughter found the Ratio 8 online, I was impressed with the perfect simplicity of the design and the fact that it was made in Portland, Oregon - not China. It looked like something you would see at Mom's in New York City. Also, Ratio offered a 5 year warranty. So I ordered it, thinking "This is the solution, our final coffeemaker!"
For two months it worked perfectly, then just stopped. So I called Ratio and spoke to Rebecca. She directed us in some troubleshooting, but nothing worked, so she sent out a new one immediately, and said they would take the first Ratio 8 into their production Dept. and try to identify the problem.
The new coffeemaker worked beautifully for two weeks, then suddenly stopped just like the first Ratio 8. So I called Rebecca at Ratio again and said to send it back. Jake and the production Dept. wanted to take it apart and find out what was wrong.
My family said I should get a refund and look for another coffeemaker. I did not want to do that. I told the folks at Ratio, " I believe in you guys and I love the Ratio 8 - I hurt want one that works!" Jake offered a replacement of the new Ratio 6, nut it had some plastic parts and is made in China. I said "No." I asked them to send a new Ratio 8, but a different wood and metal color. Maybe that particular lot of coffeemaker had some basic problems. So they sent out a replacement and for four months it has been working perfectly! I am giving it a five star rating because I really think the Ratio 8 is exceptional!! And the folks at Ratio 8 in Portland, Oregon are great!”
Thanks for the kind note, Janice! It's quite unusual to have so many issues pop up, and we're very glad we were able to make it all work out for you. Enjoy and let us know if there's anything else we can do!
“The Eight is the single best piece in my collection. Was using a French Press for almost two years before giving the Ratio a chance. Fell in like with it b/c of its gorgeous craftsman, and then in love with after our first brew. Somehow lifted the same roast we enjoyed on our press the day before to a whole new level. Cone is soooo easy to clean and prep for the next morning in 2 minutes flat including grind time! This most be how peeps feel when they get a new Rolls Royce with a driver!”
