Ratio Eight White / Parawood Reviews

4.1 Rating 12 Reviews
This is next level amazing! I have had a Mochamaster CD for well over a decade now and it was still working perfectly….however, we did not like the hot water coming in contact with plastic in that machine. In search of a “clean” coffee maker, I came across the Ratio Eight and did some research on it. I liked that these were designed and assemble in beautiful Portland, Oregon. The water tank is a BPA-free construction and the handblown glass carafe and borosilicate glass supply lines. This coffee maker is just as elegant and chic as it is efficacious. It makes a stellar “pour over style” pot of coffee and looks retro cool while doing it! I chose the white with the parawood (looks like maple) accents and it just looks elegant on the counter. The simulated pour over makes a delicious brew that meets SCA Gold Cup Standards! Is it expensive? Yes! Is it worth it? YES! I have zero buyer’s remorse for this purchase other than I wish I would have bought it sooner. The quality of construction is immediately apparent. For me, this checked all the boxes: less plastic, borosilicate glass, hardwood and metal construction hand assembled, no pump to fail (it relies on pressure created by heating the water), a Fibonacci spiral shower head to mimic manual pour over, and all that backed by a 5 year warranty.

By far the best coffee machine I’ve ever used. Ratio’s customer service and attentiveness to the needs of the customer are second to none. They stand behind their product and will do everything they can to make sure their product is in top working order.

First, the good: - it looks as nice in person as it does online; - already knew this, but it's just nice to know the entire thing is plastic-free for health and environmental reasons; tastes good, but then again, the bloom feature and shower head and overall taste are consistent with the other really good coffee makers that are less than half the price (some a third of the price); we justified this purchase based on the fact that it looks great and makes our kitchen look nicer Now, the negatives: - this one is not so much a negative, just a note of caution: it's big. That was not a problem for us, but if you don't have much counter top space, make sure you take note of the dimensions; - the website did NOT mention that this was on back order and we got no warning at all that it would take months to get our coffee maker, that was really disappointing, especially at the holidays; - there's a technical glitch on our machine; for some reason every other time we use it the button (the only one) doesn't work. So far that's not a huge problem, as you just have to press it 4 or 5 times and then it works. But I am worried one of these times it's just not going to turn on. After reading a bunch of reviews, I was prepared that something was going to go wrong as that seems to have been the experience of many people. I appreciate that this thing is made in a small shop and not some massive factory, but those massive factories also have engineers doing quality control. So far, this is not a big deal, but it is still a little nutty that you pay way more to get a machine with more glitches and propensity to break. Overall - it looks fantastic and makes pretty good coffee, but you just need to know what you're getting yourself into. We would do it again because it's still the only coffee maker that looks anywhere close to this good and it's plastic free. It stinks that you have to deal with some of these down sides with a machine this expensive, but it's probably worth it overall.

Makes great coffee, but it overflows when brewing a full pot. I have tried all the troubleshooting in the manual but nothing works. Have resorted to just making 3/4 pots, which works fine and tastes great.

Beautifully crafted machine. It works and looks great. It does take some time to tune your grind and water/coffee ratio to your liking, but it yields results that are on par with my manual pour-over techniques. You are paying for quality, consistency, and time saving with this one.

I like it; it's very similar to having a pour over coffee. Slightly less work because it's "automatic."
