“The long wait to receive and use my Ratio finally came to an end and I can firmly say, it was worth the wait. I have tried and used many different brewing methods throughout the years, varying from vacuum pot, French press, to my trusty Chemex and Able Kone. All of the different methods produced an excellent cup of coffee but required a lot work and constant attention. Then I found the Ratio 8, a sleek, stylish, one touch brewing machine proudly made in America. This coffee maker is both simple to use and a pleasure to admire on any kitchen countertop. The simplicity is only on the surface though. Through it's cycle, it starts with a shower that allows the coffee to bloom and then provides the appropriate amount of properly heated water to get the best possible extraction from the grounds. The resulting carafe of coffee is as much fun to watch brew as it is to pleasurable to drink.
While this coffee maker is both beautiful and functional, it's not without flaws (as most 1st generation products have.) This is where the Ratio team has been truly able to separate itself from the competition. Communicating with Mark on some of the design quirks (I'd only call them quirks e.g. carafe dribbles when you pour too quickly) has been easy and met with appreciation to make an already fantastic coffee maker even better. It is clear that the Ratio team takes this coffee maker very seriously and are constantly looking for ways to make it even better. I look forward to years of great coffee ahead of me and what the Ratio team will dream up next.”
“I am now the very happy owner of a Ratio 8. I have used a Technivorm MoccaMaster for approximately 8 years and have never been disappointed with the coffee it produced, but the shower beam that soaked the beans was linear and that meant moving the filter basket around for an even soak of the beans, as well as manually stopping the brew cycle to allow for the "bloom". I also wasn't thrilled that my coffee was going through a plastic filter basket leaching allegedly safe byproducts into my coffee. (yuk!) These were small details that weren't terrible to accept for the sake of a reliable, proper water temperature awesome coffee producing machine. I began wondering if there was an alternative to a plastic filter basket and a better "showerhead". Voila, the Ratio 8 is the answer to the " better mousetrap" question. No more plastic, automatic brew timing for bloom and brew, and an even soaking of beans by a ROUND showerhead, plus aesthetically gorgeous bulletproof construction..Thanks for building a beautiful, made in the USA, modern machine. Let's hope it outlasts my MoccaMaster that is still in perfect condition, but now on a shelf in my pantry.”
“When Mark first told me the Ratio Eight was the Ferrari of Coffee Machines I advised he tread carefully, I now consider this my third! My complements to Mark and his team for successfully combining Form and Function, well done all around.”
“The coffee is notably superior in taste to what I have been previously making. To be more specific, I subscribe to the Craft Coffee. They send freshly roasted coffee (just as the Pony) and the coffee has a label stating the roaster, producer, origin, variety, elevation, process and there are notes at the bottom of the label. The notes at the bottom of the label I had today said, "Aromas of campfire and cedar lead to earthy flavors reminiscent of roasted parsnip and rutabaga." To be honest, I have never been able to identify these flavors they speak of- I know the coffee tastes better than purchasing the beans at my local Starbucks but I could never taste these specific flavors they state on the label so for the first time this morning, after brewing in the ratio, I was actually able to taste these flavors. On a different note, I didn't realize how entertaining it was going to be to watch the coffee brew! My only regret was only making 15 ounces this morning instead of 30 ounces. I now am going back to make more! Thank you and worth waiting for.”
“Beautiful design and materials. Performance is marginal. I waited for 18 months for my Ratio and was very excited to use it when I received it. I found that there was little, if any, difference in the flavor of the coffee I was getting out of my technivorm. The shower head is unbalanced, primarly dripping water out of one side and the bloom feature doesn't even come close to wetting most of the grounds. Just a couple of drops of water. Anyway, It is a beautiful piece of engineering to look at and it does make above average tasting coffee. I just wish I was getting better performance.”
“I continue to love the machine, gave away my old, loyal Mochamaster......
I thought I'd miss the insulated carafe, but this turned out not to be true.
The glass carafe pours and handles so well!
And, if coffee gets cold, it's easy to pop in the microwave.....or drink at room temperature, since great coffee tastes fine that way, as you know.
I find the carafe tends to stain after several months use.....I suspect the glass surface corrodes from coffee acid. Rinsing even with boiling hot water after use does not help. [editors note from Clive: We are recommending to Paul to try the Urnex Cleancaf to soak the carafe - will leave it sparkly clear!]
Overall, I love the Ratio.
It provides the best brew ever!”
“My brother-in-law and I were able to enjoy a couple of cups of coffee together before he had to go back home. We used the same coffee and the same quantity of coffee and water that we used during the rest of the week with my old coffeemaker and oh man what a difference! I have told people that drinking coffee from this new coffeemaker is like drinking velvet. The coffee is so much smoother, richer, and thicker.
Congrats to you and the team on a beautiful design, but above all for an amazing coffeemaker.
Best of luck and to a long success with this product and your company,”
“I've had my new ratio coffee pot for a couple of weeks now, and I *love* it!
I love its uncomplicated design; I love the carafe feel and of course the coffee is smooth and perfect. It was well worth the wait - thanks for your perseverance in making the best coffee pot ever!”
