“Well made. I wish the the whites weren’t all different colors. The dripper, the carafe and machine all are different finishes. But, this is way more practical than the glass, which cracked with the gentlest bump against the the machine base. Plus it keeps the coffee hot.”
“I bought this carafe because I hated how my coffee would get cold in 10 minutes. Although I do love the appearance of the glass it just wasn't practical.
Pros: It keeps it warm. I can come back in 30 minutes and still have hot coffee in the carafe.
Cons: The spout is awkward and short. It drips coffee down the side of the carafe instead of pouring it neatly into a cup. I have to pour the coffee over the sink so I don't spill it all over my counter. I also have to use a different glass to pour water into the machine or else I get water everywhere. Like someone else said the white color is a different shade of white. I thought Ratio would pay better attention to something like this since their machines are so beautiful. These are just design flaws that I hope Ratio would consider when improving their products.”
“The pitcher is extremely well-built and is surprisingly heavy in a good way. The carafe keeps the coffee quite hot for a couple hours and pours well all the way until the last 10%, where it starts to miss the target cup somewhat... While that sounds bad, it is better than my pour accuracy challenged Technivorm carafe, and *much* better than the horrific carafe that came with my Behmor Brazen.
If there was any improvement I would recommend, it is to do a better color match with the more muted white color of the Ratio Eight. The super-bright white carafe is *much* brighter by contrast, making it stand out and look cheaper than the high quality product it actually is.”
Thanks for the feedback, David! We have been working to get the color tones closer on the Eight and the Thermal Carafe - it's a challenge due to being coated at entirely different factories and with different types of coatings, but we want to make them a near perfect match.
“THE MACHINE: I wasn't prepared for the dimensions of this thing. It's huge. Doesn't fit in my appliance garage. Making it worse is a 1980s vintage power cord that is ugly, thick and inflexible.
THE PROCESS: It's hard to see the level indicator as you pour coffee. I almost always overfill it or spill water over the top. Also I find that I have to turn the cone as it is brewing several times in order to ensure all the grounds get wet.
THE COFFEE: Is absolutely delicious. I'd give it 5 stars just for the coffee flavor but I settled on 4 because of the design issues above.”
“The carafe is beautiful and keeps the coffee hot for a long time. It is heavy and well made. It goes beautifully with the Ration coffee maker I previously purchased.”
