About Red Paddle Co:

Once upon a board, Red Paddle Co-founder, John Hibbard, realised there might be a better way of doing things. It was 2008 and paddleboarding was just getting going. As he paddled along on a heavy composite SUP, he had this crazy idea that it could be made better with an inflatable board.

It wasn’t just a hunch either. Having spent over a decade as a full-time, sponsored competitor on the professional windsurfing world tour, John was getting pretty weary of pleading with, and generally avoiding airline check-in staff due to the mountain of cumbersome windsurfing kit required for his numerous international trips (it was tough, but someone had to do it!). A problem, he realised, that every paddleboarder the world over would have to face if they wanted to travel anywhere with their standard hard board.

I bought the Voyager 12’6 2012 edition in early November and have taken it out on Sydney Harbour once or twice a week since then. Before I bought the board I was close to buy the Blackfin Model V, which has identical dimensions to the Voyager, but is a few hundred dollars cheaper. However, Sup Gear Australia located in North Manly run testing days once a month and so I was able to test out various Red boards. After testing the Ride 10’6, Sport 11’3, I then tested the Voyager. I found the difference between the first two boards and the Voyager to be quite stark. The Voyager felt so much smoother in the water and easier to paddle. The one thing I’ll say is the the people at Sup Gear Australia, and at Jervis Bay Stand Up Paddle (who both only stock Red boards) recommend I buy the Sport 10’6, which I did not think was suitable for my needs. I wanted a board on which I could cover longer distances, and that was big enough to carry me and my wife (combined we weigh less than 120 kilos) every now and then. My wife and I have been out together on the Voyager many times now and it’s great - very stable, and long enough to carry both of is. Luckily we’re both short and light. Pumping the board can be a chore, but takes easily less than 15 minutes. (It doesn’t feel like that at the time though!). One thing I will say is the bag isn’t as great as Red makes out. Quality wise it’s decent, but nothing special. There is only one additional pocket in the bag and it doesn’t have a zip or velcro. As it is located on the inside of the front, anything that I store in that small pocket falls out once I unzip the bag and the front flaps open. Other than that minor point, I love the board and would recommend.

Wow, What a great board, bought in November, went out on a sunny day afternoon just before it got dark, which is around 16:30 in The Netherlands. The boards gives me a lot of confidence, is stable, straight, easy to turn. So hard to leave the water... Being 95 kgs, 186 cms the board suits me. Redpaddle delivers, Thank you. I will enjoy it, sure hope you will too.

The 2021 Voyager 12’’6 is a beast of a board. Went out on it's maiden voyage today and is super stable and such an amazing glide through the water. The build quality is superior to any other brand that I have seen and Red Paddle Co have thought about every little detail. A big thank you to James at Red for all of your help in choosing this board, certainly was a great choice. Can't wait to try the cool box on the back of the board!

Great attention to detail for packaging. Easy to inflate. Instructions are very clear. Great backpack. Board glided over and above my expectations on the water. Love the board and cannot wait to go back out again. Will highly recommend an inflatable Red Paddle Co to my friends.
