“The bed itself was OK to assemble; took us the best part of an afternoon, which wasn't surprising given the size. There were a couple of niggles relating to machining tolerances, with a few screw holes on the top bed board off kilter and one of the backing boards had its dowel holes drilled slightly off, but nothing that needed any major modification and by the time it was finished it felt pretty solid. Design-wise it is great; we much prefer the steps over a conventional ladder and the storage is really good. Only complaints are the lack of a headboard on the bottom bunk (they probably assumed it would be flush against a wall) and the side piece on the bottom bunk feeling a bit inadequate; we found it creaked at the sides under an adult's weight when reading stories or whatever, although over-tightening the bolts that held it in place seemed to help. The supplied wall brackets, as is often the case with European flat packs, assume that it is being used in a house without skirting boards, but given the sheer weight of the unit, I wouldn't consider toppling to be a risk.
One aspect we were less impressed with was the trundle bed accessory that goes underneath because of difficulties in assembling it. The chipboard base is supposed to slot into grooves in the side pieces, however the grooves were too narrow for the board to easily go in and slide into place according to the instructions. We were eventually able to assemble it, but it involved deviating from the instructions, a lot of brute force and ultimately hammering it together with a rubber mallet. Also, we found that it had a habit of sinking into the carpet and being hard to pull out.”
