Our green Bokhara rugs are hand knotted using high quality fine merino wool from Australia, the hand washing process used during production produces a high gloss lustrous pile. The traditional Bokhara design has been made in Pakistan since the 1930's, when weavers faithfully copied the traditional gul or elephants foot motif woven for centuries by nomadic Turkoman tribes. The design today is still very close to the original, with the exception of the choice of colours and sizes. Pakistan rugs tend to have wide elaborate borders and a robust white cotton fringe. Unlike the original Turkoman rugs the Bokhara's from Pakistan are available in programmed sizes although colours and shades can vary from village to village. Still made using the same weaving technique used for centuries in Asia and the Middle East, these rugs offer excellent value for money.
