“I was looking for a good-looking bag and settled with this one with high hopes. I tried to live with the strap problem because I love this bag so much (it is roomy with great compartments for a laptop and everything. But, the strap won’t hold up even with only a MacBook (no charger whatsoever) inside. This causes me to constantly adjust the strap.”
Hey there. Thanks for sharing your experience! We appreciate your feedback and we'll definitely forward this to the Bellroy brand to further improve future designs. Cheers!
“Given that this is a $300 bag at RRP, you would expect the highest or at least an above-average level of quality and thought that has been put into this bag. "Upgrading" from a bag that cost less than half the price of this, my experience has been disappointing, with key functional issues already arising within my first week of usage.
As mentioned in another review, the straps on this bag simply do not work. I find myself continuously having to adjust the straps on the bag throughout the day as it continues to slip. I had to adjust the straps on my bag on more than 6 occasions during my commute to and from the city. I usually only carry a laptop, water bottle, and mouse to the office, so it was quite shocking to see this was even an issue when the Herschel Settlement bag that I bought for $30 handled it completely fine.
The zippers for the laptop compartment continually snag on the inner fabric which results in a routine of tug-o-war every time you need to take your laptop out. Again at $300, I should never need to worry about my bag not being able to open when I need it to...
A minor nitpick - the side compartments made to store your water bottles, were quite hard to fit and access a 600ml tumbler. I find it easier to just store it in the main compartment.
Some positives about this bag, because there are some things they do get right. The material seems to be quite durable (as expected of bags at this price point). Additionally, there are lots of compartments both externally and internally, allowing you to organise as many items as you see fit.
TLDR, for $300 there are better alternatives you can buy at a cheaper or comparable price. Save your money and time, this wasn't the bag you were looking for.”

“The bags arm straps struggle to stay in the same place and constantly slip out as you walk. This occurs even when minimal weight is in the bag. It’s extremely frustrating and makes wearing the bag uncomfortable.”
“After a lot of research, I finally settled on the Bellboy pack, and on my first trip overseas it was amazing. The design is well thought out, easy to use, and looks great. It was perfect, I loved it, and was super happy.
But then after a couple of weeks of use, the straps started slipping. At first you’d not notice and just wonder why the bag was sitting low on your back. A week later and I could feel the straps letting go a few mm at a time every time I took a step and I’d have to hold it constantly by one of the straps. And eventually, I had to use electrical tape to fix them into position. It was hardly overloaded, sometimes it had little more than a laptop in it.
My wife quickly went from “You spent **how** much on a backpack?!” to laughing at my backpack “that doesn’t even stay on your back”.
In fairness, Bellroy customer service has sent me some plastic clips that can be used to hold the straps in in place, and so long as you never want to adjust the positioning, that works okay. But this is still a significant design flaw (and/or quality control problem) that is not really acceptable in a backpack of this price.”
“The backpack itself is very well made and designed except for one fundamental fault. The straps are constantly loosening and requiring tightening as the webbing keepers just do not seem to work. This makes the backpack unwearable as it ends sitting at the top of my legs and not on my back. The webbing straps are beginning to show signs of fraying due to constantly adjustment. I have contacted Bellroy who suggested hacks using elastic band, which I do not feel is appropriate for a backpack at this price point.
This bag is not functional and I would like a refund or exchange for another backpack that actually has straps that work.”
“The compartmentalisation and overall build quality is superior. What is endlessly frustrating is that there is not enough friction on the metal piece that holds the strap length, every time I sling the pack over my shoulders it loosens, then I tighten it, then it progressively loosens over time. Had I known about this I wouldn't have bought it. It's so annoying. Also the zippers are quite difficult to operate because there is nothing to hold onto to deal with the opposing force. Overall I don't think I could recommend.”
