“I've always been a Bellroy fan boy, so when the Venture line of Slings came out, I just HAD to get one. Initially I was so torn about which size to get. The 2.5L, as cute as it is, just doesn't suit my needs. On the other end of the spectrum, the 9L felt like a behemoth (slight over-exaggeration, the two are somehow very close in size, I feel as though Bellroy may twist the figures a little, in terms of exaggeration?)
Anyway, I bought this sling, and it has been a welcome addition to my sling/cross-body bag collection. In my opionion, if you like it on your frame, it is a near-perfect bag. The main compartment is spacious, yet no space gets wasted. There is heaps of organisational options, and then the icing on the cake is the front compartment, for smaller items/keys, and the back pocket, which is great for anything you want to hide, as it sits completely flush with your chest or back (e.g. passport, cash when overseas etc). I can easily fit either a Memobottle "Slim" (~600ml) in there, same with the Memobottle A6 (500ml).
There'd be minimal issue fitting in a small, compact umbrella. That's the thing - it's the right amount of space without looking to bulky when worn. As you may have seen, Bellroy have done a really cool thing where basically the straps tighten or un-tighten as you load up and load up the bag. That way it always is kept to the absolute minimum size it can handle, given whatever you've got in there. Hard to explain, the PackHacker review I think displays it.
Otherwise, I got the Nightsky colour, a beautiful deep blue. It's gotten a little dirty, but each time that's been resolved with some carpet cleaner plus the good old hand wash with some detergent. The only criticism I have is that it's not as waterproof as other slings I have. The main reason for this is at the side gussets, where the zippers end, there s a gap between the zip and the fabric. Just a tiny hole, and the rain would need to come from a strange angle, but yes, water could definitely get into the sling if the orientation was right (or wrong). Again, PackHacker went over it.
All in all, love this sling, I can see it lasting me a long time. If you want something smaller and that is the little bit extra waterproof, check out the Aer Day Sling 3 3L in X-Pac. You don't be disappointed. And honestly, it holds almost as much as this bag from Bellroy. Hmm...”
