We are sorry you are unhappy with this product. I would first recommend you check out the 6 ways to install a swing. If you opt for something like the ceiling hooks, you can get those are home depot for about $1.
For the length of straps, you can look at the chain, removed the chains or shorten up by the springs, they are not totally required. This will help with the loose webbing. This is designed to work with most ceiling heights.
