“I purchased this 12 x 15 garage.
I’ll start with shipping: my shipping cost was $ 1087.00.
The truck from ( Ceva Logistics) showed up unannounced. Email from Shipper said we will call you a day prior to delivery to set up time. The truck pulled into my driveway at my house. Driver said do you have a forklift ? I asked him if he has a forklift at his house? Garage was in 5 boxes, about 1000 pounds and on a 10 foot long skid. With no other choice, I had to hand unload the boxes from the back of the truck. At 65 years old, took me 2-1/2 hours and I was mad as hell!!! Not only that but, as I was unloading the truck (that I paid over a thousand dollars to have garage delivered and “set on driveway )”. I see the truck driver in a bush on side of my driveway taking a pee !!! Can you imagine that ????
I contacted the shipping company Ceva Logistics, customer service and not once did they call me back. I kept calling until I got the shipping manager and spoke with him. He was very shocked and sympathetic after hearing my experience, said he would look into it and call me back. He never did !!! After two days of not hearing back from him, I called him and he said while he agrees that no one should ever have to unload our trucks, in the end, it’s shelterlogics fault for not giving them enough delivery details.
All in all, I found delivery company very very poor and customer service is just a sham.
I contacted shelter logic about the delivery issue and spoke with Gregory Mellette at Customer Service. Right from the beginning of our conversation, Gregory listened intently, asked a few relevant questions and apologized over and over again. Gregory said he would raise this issue with his manager and get back to me at once. The following day, Gregory reached out to me with a very satisfactory resolution (at the cost of Shelter Logic). Thank you Gregory and Shelter Logic
Now my feedback on the garage itself:
Fit and finish: 10 stars
Design and engineering: 10 stars
Instructions and drawings: 8 stars
Value for price: 10 stars
My comments
To start with, I have never built a garage or building of any sort before. I wasn’t in any hurry and I did enjoy building this garage.
Read the instructions front to back then read them again…. Get familiar with all of the instructions and step by step directions until you fully understand them.
TRUST the instructions and assembly without conditions !!! If you are assembling any part and something isn’t fitting just right, go back and re read instructions on the section you are putting together and double check your part numbers and your assembly. The instructions are 100% correct. Keep this in mind all the way the through your build… the instructions are 100% correct!
I found here and there holes weren’t lining up with bolts or screws so found if I loosened off two or three previous installed bolts to allow for bit of play, bolts would slip right in. Then go back and tighten everything down and onto next step in assembly.
Time saver tip:
Spend an evening before you start assembling the garage with the painted bolts, painted screws and nylon washers. There are hundreds and hundreds of them. Take the time and put the washers on all of them and then put them in separate bags to be ready for when you need them. I spent hours putting the washers on bolts and screws on the construction site during daylight “workable” hours when I could have been assembling the garage. Don’t fret… there are plenty of spare nuts, bolts, painted or unpainted screws and washers. You’ll have plenty of leftover.
Time saver tip:
ONLY The heavier gauge metal ( roof trusses and vertical truss supports). I found the pre drilled holes “just a tad too small” to allow for the screws to go in easily without stripping screw heads.
I pre drilled (opened up) all of these required holes to 3/32” and assembling was perfect and screws went in well. I’d say in total, I may have striped 5 screw heads out of hundreds
No need to open up (enlarge) ANY of the lighter gauge metal pre drilled holes as all lined up perfectly and the screws went in easily.
Tip:
I used a cordless impact gun and good quality Phillips bits. Don’t try building this garage without one.
Tip:
I built the entire garage before I anchored any of the floor pieces to my foundation. This allowed me to give a corner or sidewall a soft tap to help align any screws to pre drilled holes.
Comment:
The instructions indicate at least two people are required to assemble this garage. I’m 65 years old and with a temporary rope here and there, I was able to complete this entire garage by myself except for about 15 minutes here and there totalling at most two hours of help. You can too. I enjoyed building this garage, was like a great big puzzle to me. Go slow, read and understand the assembly instructions.
General comment:
As I’ve said, trust the instructions and assembly instructions. Before I purchased this garage, I read all of the reviews and watched online videos. Many complaints of cheap screws and hardware that strip out and caused poor reviews. That’s why I
Already had the “heads up” to open the heavy gauge pieces to 3/32”. I think I only stripped 5 or 6 screws in total.
Tip:
Once again, some reviews said roof leaks like crazy!!! I found that when installing roof panel screws, if I went back and double checked each screw on that panel, I could always find most needed tightening once entire panel was installed. My roof is water tight. Yours will be too if you just go back and give each screw a check once that panel is installed.
Many reviewers mentioned having to drill their own screw / bolt holes as factory holes wouldn’t line up to allow parts, side or roof panels to match factory holes.
Yes I found that as well but like I said… trust the instructions!!!! I’d go back, loosen last half dozen screws or bolts, give things a little wiggle and everything would line up perfectly. In all, I had to drill my own screw holes in at most 8 holes that I just couldn’t find the factory holes. Not bad considering there are literally hundreds and hundreds of screw holes that lined up perfectly. Trust the instructions!!
Things I think need improvement:
The side entrance door:
Door skins and frames are good BUT, the entire door set (hinges, door handles, door lock ) are really really sub grade. Well below the quality of the rest of the garage.
Hardware:
Omg those 4 sided nuts for all of the bolts are a rascal !!!! Why they don’t supply a standard octagon nut that you can put a socket or wrench on is beyond me. Those 4 sided nuts will add hours to your assembly, just trying to get your fingers onto them blindly often when you are not able to see the ends of the bolts you are trying to put the nuts onto
Roof and siding panels:
As stated in many reviews, the part numbers are “printed” on the panels. One drop of water or condensation on those panels and the part number is gone !!! You’re left to figure out if the part you need is the right one trial and error.
In closing:
Would I buy another…..?
I certainly would and will, I’m very very happy with my new garage. Looks great and I enjoyed the time I spent putting it all together…. Great puzzle!”
Hello Neil,
Thank you very much for your analysis and thoughtful feedback. We are very happy to see that you are pleased with your Everest Steel Garage, Wind and Snow Rated Storage Building Kit, 12 ft. x 15 ft. (GRC121). We would like to thank you for taking the time to leave this review and for choosing SOJAG!
“This looks pretty cool compared to a wooden shed, but unfortunately thats about all I can say that is positive about it. I took quite a few days with some friends of mine (one of whom has worked construction for years) and we took our time a few hours here and a few hours there, making sure that we did it correctly. We finished on a Monday afternoon and it rained Tuesday night so I went out to check it and it was leaking like a sieve. I was shocked to see a soaked floor and the roof dripping on me all over the inside of the garage. Perhaps what is more disappointing is the customer service. I left a voicemail one day and was never called back. Then I finally got someone the next week and was told that I couldn't do anything without my paperwork and model numbers. No problem, called them back when I got home and got someone else who wasn't interested in my paperwork but told me he would email me some "ideas" about how to fix the roof. I definitely got the feeling of being blown off and so far I have not received an email. After spending thousands on a garage shed, I do not feel that I should have to spend hundreds on liquid rubber and figure out how to reach all the way up the roof to be able to use this. It is essentially worthless to me now and I have wasted thousands with no reimbursement, solutions, etc. AVOID THIS LIKE THE PLAGUE OR MAKE SURE TO USE TONS OF SILICONE WHEN YOU PUT IT TOGETHER. Also this may be my fault, but the service door will not close or line up no matter what I do even though the building is square and on new cement. Super cheap door. Overall assessment, not worth the money at all and lackadaisical customer service”
Aaron,
We are awfully sorry to hear about this. When properly assembled, leaking should not be an issue. We would like to collect more info and possibly provide a solution. Please give us a call at 1-800-851-1085 (press 1) or emailing us photos to further evaluate what's going on at assist@arrowsheds.com
We are looking forward to assisting you!, Customer Service
“Buy prebuilt, and this is why:
-one of the roof panels and a few side panels are a mismatched color and different shade of gray.
-bent top overhead sliding poor panel (was able to bend it back but it still has small creases
-missing hardware for the actual build, including the door (put in a warranty claim), some uprights, and the screw with hole in it for overhead door. I was able to create my own
-side door deadbolt knob fell off
-the directions show two people that were able to put up the main supports. This couldn’t be further from the truth and it took 4 people, with three holding and me screwing in the supports for it to actually stay up. There was only 3 mph wind that day.
-While the shed indicates that it’s wind resistant, it took nearly full construction for me to have faith that it wasn’t going to fall over. Had to use ratchet straps and weights to continuously keep it from falling over
-the instructions were horrific, many of the diagrams didn’t have all parts labeled, and it took me 45 minutes of paging forward and backwards for me to make my own drawing that was actually competent
-both the front (exterior) and rear (interior) gables are stained with i have no idea what, and the front gable was wavy, creased, and would not flatten out.
-safety cable for the interior overhead door keeps coming loose even though it was installed to instructions
-some side and roof panels weren’t even marked with part numbers and were dry
-some roof and side panels had part numbers immediately washed away when coming into contact with a snowflake, making it impossible to know which number it was.
The shed looks nice from afar with the exception of the mismatched roof panel. Up close, not so much. While the shed is pretty sturdy once it’s put together, it was the complete opposite up to that point. I put 60 hours into building it, and took at least 7 days off of work to complete it. I can honestly say that I will never recommend this shed to any ever. I would have gladly paid more for a prebuilt shed that was complete just to be dropped in and anchored. This was not worth the cost at all, and I’m not satisfied with the end product.”
Hello Luke,
We are very sorry to see that you are not satisfied with your purchase. Our sheds are designed as DIY projects in hopes of saving on installation costs. We recommend at least two people are required to assemble a shed of any size – at least one to position parts or panels and one to handle fasteners and tools. Assembly time depends on a variety of factors, including roof design, tools available, DIY skill, and the pace at which you work. Guidelines for each shed assembly are approximate AFTER completion of the base and assume two or more people working on the assembly. Please note that we strive to provide a quality product and can assure you that this is not a common occurrence. To have the missing parts replaced, please send an email to assist@arrowsheds.com and include your name, mailing address, phone number, model number, a copy of sales receipt, missing part numbers, and quantity. We will place your order and send you a confirmation email within 2 to 3 business days. If you require assistance installing your shed, we are available for assembly support 7 -days a week at 1-800-851-1085 (press 1).
