“This is one of the wonderfully campy Bond films of the mid 80s with Roger Moore as 007. It's supremely entertaining, it's colourful with circus clowns and Indian gowns (I know they're called sari, but I couldn't resist the cheap rhyme - seems to go with the rather good natured silliness of the film), it's great fun and it's got one of the best theme songs: Rita Coolidge's rendition of "All Time High".The opening scene shows a horse show in Cuba, with James Bond eventually emerging from a horse box in a nifty one man plane. Once the Cuban mission is fulfilled, Bond returns to London where he attends Sotheby's for the auction of a priceless Faberge egg. Enter the main villain played by the ever suave Louis Jourdain. Kabir Bedi (in a surprising bit of ethnically correct casting) makes for a suitably big and intimidating Indian henchman, Maud Adams is gorgeous and very sensual as Octopussy, Vijay Amritraj is hilarious as Bond's ally in India, the unforgettable Desmond Llewelyn is seen developing the usual array of gadgets, this time in a workshop in India, and Steven Berkhoff chews up the scenery as Russian General. The chases are fun and the horse and plane theme from the pre-title sequence resurfaces towards the end of the film when the super spy chases a plane on horseback. Yeah, it's just what you'd expect from Roger Moore's Bond. And the actor certainly does seem to enjoy himself in the role. Very watchable film that will keep the family nicely entertained on a rainy Sunday afternoon.”
