I'm sure it's a great product, but the thing isn't as cold as I imagined.

For plantar fasciitis recovery, my physical therapist recommended freezing a cycling/running water bottle with tap water and my podiatrist suggested a soft drink bottle with water. Because I'm an idiot, I compared all three - here's my observations:*The little nubs, while providing a massaging effect, create a small contact gap between the plastic and your skin. A regular water bottle filled with frozen water will feel "colder" since it has greater contact area to transfer heat.*The refrigerant in this roller has a higher freezing point - roughly 45 degrees (measured with an industrial thermocouple). The soft drink bottle filled with ice (100% water) definitely has the coldest surface - pretty close to 32 degrees coming out of a typical home freezer - and might be too cold for some, especially with bare feet. The water bottle was somewhere in between.*The refrigerant in this roller also "melts" at a faster rate than pure ice. While it doesn't stay cold as long, my sessions weren't long enough to make a noticeable difference.*Soft drink bottles are made of thin walled PET and can only be used 2-4 times. Typical water bottles are made of HDPE or LDPE. This roller is likely HDPE. If you fill any of these with a frozen liquid and drop it on a hard surface, they will likely break - they aren't designed for impact. This freezable roller worked exactly as expected for plantar fasciitis recovery. Frozen water bottles definitely "feel" marginally colder, but they have to be frozen upright, with the cap open (to allow for expansion), and may leak as the ice melts. You buy this roller essentially for convenience - throw it in the freezer and you're good to go. I wound up using the frozen water bottle more frequently, but that's just my experience.

The bumps feel great to roll my foot on, but even totally frozen, it's never quite as cold as I'd like. It has a hint of cold, but doesn't seem to numb my foot like I want.

After a visit to the MD and a diagnosis of plantar fasciitis, she recommended rolling my foot on "something frozen like a water bottle". I found this device and although I thought it expensive for a bit of plastic, I tried it. I threw it in the freezer and later that night, gave it a try. It's (of course) cold to the touch at first but you get over that quickly. I roll it from the ball of my foot to the heel and it feels pretty good after a few minutes. Try that for about 15-20 minutes each evening and it helps with the pain. I hope this helps.

I keep this in my freezer and roll on my feet every morning when I wake and every night before I go to bed. If I have pain during the day, will also use. Only used for 3 days but already feel the difference. Still have pain but it is greatly reduced.I also roll my calves with it as friend who had severe PF told me that tight calf muscles will effect tension in the heel. He also told me to expect to have to do this every day for a few months for pain to completely go away -- then frequently after to keep PF from coming back.It has nice "cool" feeling when use. (It can't feel as cold as frozen water bottle because the bumps keep your foot from resting right on the base.)I haven't tried to heat it but expect it would be the same "warm" vs. hot because the bumps will keep your foot from directly resting on the base.

I expected the shape to be perfectly rounded, but seems a bit oval shape. However it still works pretty well. I had another brand before this that I lost when we moved and wasn't able to find again. This one does the trick though I wish the liquid inside wasn't so sloshy. I know it is mean to be there if I want it warm or cold, but usually when I have bought these in the past the liquid inside was heavier and sounded more gel like.I'm nitpicking a bit but I like to give details. Overall I like this and it does help with my foot pain. It slips a little on my hard floor when I use it but I bet on carpet it would not be an issue.

I struggled from planter fascia and have a very active job and life style. A client of mine suggested this to me and after 2-3 weeks of using it almost nightly, I was able to jog again without pain. I still use it several times a week and am back up to running 4 times a week. Amazing.
