20 years ago I got one of these. Used it cold from the freezer used it hot from the microwave.. All good. Then someone decided to wash it, the bag broke and filled the washing machine with rice. No it was not me, someone not high on my list!! After a few months I just had to find another.. The not high on my list went to Ebay and bought a corn kernel one.. It didn't "move like the old one and the Boxer Dogs took it outside after about 2 weeks and tore it open..... after all, it had corn in it and so does their dog food.. Then I found this.. back to a rice fill... I've had it 2 months now. It is a bit bigger than the one I 1st had, and the outside material is a bit thicker, but works like the last one. The dogs are not eyeing it either. Only I find is that it takes another 30 seconds in the microwave than the old one. So Rice is the way to go. If I wasn't a guy and could sew I think I could make one for $1.. But in my old age this is exactly what I need and far less than a singer..

I think this is s good quality heating pad. It is soft fleece on one side and thinner plain cotton fabric on the other. You feel the heat more through the thinner fabric. It does smell like cooked rice when it's heated in the microwave, but I like that scent and find it comforting. I use it to warm my hands and arms when sitting and reading because I'm always cold in the winter. The only negative is that my cat goes crazy when he smells this heating pad. He wants to tear into it and eat the rice!

Love this heating pad. The heat last for a long time and it's easy to store.

I bought two of these (size small) and have found them to work generally well, though I find they are inferior to products from Elasto-Gel. They are inexpensive and durable enough for modest use. Despite being a very good value, they have a couple of deficits that cause me to lower their rating to four stars. First, the cover is relatively rigid when used as a cold pack and as a result doesn't conform as well as I'd like to a curved area (in my case, the knee), the second is they are thin enough that even when frozen they lose their ability to cool relatively fast, faster than competing products. If you want a compact gel pack at a great price for intermittent use, I think these are a decent choice. If you're going to use them regularly, I'd recommend looking into an Elasto-Gel product.
