"A deft exercise in atmospheric horror and insanity." – Paul Malcolm, L.A. Weekly
It looms up out of the woods like a dormant beast. Grand, imposing... abandoned and deteriorating, the Danvers State Mental Hospital, closed down for 15 years, is about to receive 5 new visitors.
Donning protective gear, the men of the Hazmat Elimination Co. venture into the eerily vast and vacant asylum that is filled with an evil and mysterious past. Rampant patient abuse, medieval medical procedure and rumors of demonic possession are some of the many dark secrets the hospital holds – but then so do each of the men.
This "deliciously disturbing" (Us Weekly) thriller, directed by Brad Anderson (The Machinist), features a talented cast including David Caruso (CSI: Miami), Peter Mullan (War Horse, Trainspotting), Paul Guilfoyle (CSI: Crime Scene Investigation), Josh Lucas (American Psycho), Stephen Gevedon (Show Me a Hero) and Brendan Sexton III (The Killing, Boys Don't Cry).

Session 9 remains one of the more crimally underrated horror films of the past 20 years. The film follows an Asbestos abatement crew who get a job at an abandoned asylum at the insistence of the owner of the company Gordon Fleming (Peter Mullan) The film is very quiet and mimialist, choosing to bulid tension through subtlety and paranoia rather then jumpscares and gore. The film is filled with marvelous performances which along with first time director Brad Anderson's marvelous direction keep you deeply invested in the film's deep sense of dread. As the story unfolds with each twist and turn being more surprising then the last. The ending is one of the most chilling I've ever seen without any spoilers i'd say Session 9 is a must watch for horror fans. It might not be filled with gore or an endless stream of jumpscares but it's undoubtedly a creepy and worthwhile addition to your collection. The Blu-Ray looks and sounds remarkable and the features are really outstanding. The commentary is great as is the new interviews and revisiting of the filming locations. An absolute treat!
