One of television's most acclaimed and riveting dramas of all time, Homicide: Life On The Street, arrives in its entirety with this comprehensive 35-DVD collection.
Executive produced by Barry Levinson (director of Rain Man, Wag The Dog and Bugsy) and Tom Fontana (the creator behind HBO's Oz), and based on the book Homicide: A Year On The Killing Streets by David Simon (creator and executive producer of The Wire), Homicide: Life On The Street presented viewers with a gritty and realistic examination of detectives working the homicide division in Baltimore.
Featuring an outstanding ensemble cast, including Richard Belzer, Andre Braugher, Yaphet Kotto, Melissa Leo and Ned Beatty, Homicide also featured guest appearances from such notable actors as Robin Williams, Paul Giamatti, Rosanna Arquette, James Earl Jones, Joan Chen, Bruce Campbell, Jerry Orbach and many more.
A critical smash and a three-time Peabody Award winner, Homicide: Life On The Street remains one of television's finest hours about one of America's toughest jobs.

HOMICIDE: LIFE ON THE STREET isn't just one of my favorite programs from the 1990s but one of my favorite shows of all time. Sharp writing, top-notch (but low key) acting, and jump cut editing techniques made this series stand out from the pack. The series also shares the same fictional universe as other shows of the era -- PICKET FENCES, CHICAGO HOPE, EARLY EDITION, the LAW & ORDER franchise, The X-FILES, and ST. ELSEWHERE. It won numerous awards including 3 consecutive TV Critics Association Awards and 3 Peabody Awards (the first ever "cop" show to achieve this). Time magazine listed it as one of the "Best TV Shows of All-TIME." And in 2013, TV Guide ranked it #55 on its list of the 60 Best Series of All Time. In spite of all the accolades it received, the series never broke into the Top 20 during its 7-year run. Sadly, NBC never really knew what to do with the show -- and attempted many times to reshape it into something more resembling other cop shows on the air at the same time -- and by the final season, there were new programming executives in charge who made it impossible for the series to continue (but at least we got the series finale telefilm HOMECIDE: THE MOVIE, which was originally titled HOMICIDE: LIFE EVERLASTING). Home video releases: 2005 - A&E released individual season sets plus a complete series box set. These release didn't include the cross-over episodes with LAW & ORDER, nor was the series finale telefilm. 2009 - A&E re-released the complete series box set in a more self-saving design. This release did include the LAW & ORDER cross-over episodes and the telefilm. 2017 - ShoutFactory issued a simple re-release of the 2009 box set. Doesn't appear to be anything new. If you missed the 2 prior release, I'd snatch this one up before it goes out of print.

Before there was The Wire, there was this outstanding series about the Homicide Department in Baltimore. Featuring a first rate cast, edgy scripts, and directed by some big time names, this series was way ahead of its time. Executively produced by Barry Levinson and Tom Fontana and based on the book, Homicide: A Year on the Killing Streets by David Simon, this dramatic series featured an amazing cast: Richard Belzer, Andre Braugher, Yaphet Kotto, Melissa Leo, and Ned Beatty. Follow these world weary detectives as they work hard to solve the case, and sometimes not, in the city of Baltimore, that had a record breaking homicide record in real life. I was delighted when I saw this finally available for home viewing as I had been a die hard fan of the show. This is the real deal here; no overplayed dramas, no made for television crimes, actual cases were often portrayed and you really felt the sacrifices as the names went up on the board with each ensuing episode. This is what set the scene for great viewing yet to come: The Sopranos, The Wire, Oz; none of these shows wound have happened if it hadn't been for Homicide. Buy this now and prepared to be amazed. An incredible gem of a show that benefits from repeat viewing. Filmed on location in Baltimore and you are allowed in to witness the daily grind of murder upon murder, cases solved and unsolved, witnesses that are afraid to speak and the men that speak for the dead! First class television that needs to be seen and appreciated!
