"Good Science Fiction entertainment … a chilling look at what might happen if computers took over the world!" – New York Post
The ultimate computer creates the ultimate terror in this chillingly real sci-fi suspense thriller. When electronics genius Charles Forbin creates a massive computer complex that is capable of independently regulating the national defense of the United States, it appears that no enemy will ever be able to penetrate its sovereign borders.
But such a promising thought turns into a stunning nightmare when it's discovered the Russians have built an equally sophisticated computer and that these two "doomsday machines" have linked, sharing classified information and top secrets. Desperately, Forbin and his Soviet counterparts try to stop the all-knowing "monster" computers from seizing command of the world's nuclear missile stockpiles.

An almost perfect sci-fi movie, Colossus has never looked better. The rare widescreen version that this disc uses comes from what appears to be either a remastered or utterly pristine print. It looks gorgeous, as though it were shot yesterday. And the sound in amazing - full, rich DTS HD mono that fills the viewing area. This disc is an utter triumph. The film, of course, is still as fantastic as ever. Highest recommendation.

The Blu-Ray treatment of Colossus-The Forbin Project engraves the hypnotic realization that this film could have appeared in 1970. Nearly 50 years later, Forbin resonates with a darkly-crowned foreshadowing of the global balance of power, well beyond its Cold War origins. Eric Braeden symbolizes the film as the enigmatic Dr. Forbin. The supporting cast responds perfectly to his commanding aura, notably Gordon Pinsent as The President, Susan Clark as a scientist, William Schallert as the head of The C.I.A. and Alex Rodine as Bradeden's Soviet opposite number. Colossus-The Forbin Project remains and is emblazoned as a global cautionary tale.

So anyway, I've been waiting for someone to release a proper version of Colossus: The Forbin Project for a long time now. Universal's own previous release was a pan-and-scan version, which seemed a little pathetic considering it's their movie. Well, Shout! has answered my prayers with this just-released version of the film. The picture is absolutely gorgeous and of course, in it's proper aspect ratio all the way through. I didn't notice any sort of scratches or blemishes on the print at all, this seemed almost perfect. The same can be said of the sound, it's crystal clear, and Michel Colombier's score really shines on this. Yeah, there are certainly some aspects to the film that will be dated as, of course, computers have come a long way since 1970, but with that said, Colossus is still a pretty terrific thriller, and again, the presentation is as good as it gets (at least for me anyway). This also includes a 10-minute interview with lead actor Eric Braeden that's quite nice to see and a commentary track from Jeff Bond. I've only just started on the commentary track, and it's pretty informative. Big thumbs up to Shout! on this one and a big thanks for finally getting us Colossus fans a package to be proud of.
